Clark Welcomes The Competition Dunne Will Bring

Ciaran Clark is ready to welcome back Richard Dunne with open arms because he knows he will keep him on his toes and he doesn't want to lose that starting place.

Speaking to the Official Site as Dunne nears a return to full fitness, Clark was full of praise for the experienced centre half, speaking about the support and backing he has received personally from him since breaking into the first team, however Clark's admiration doesn't go as far as giving up his starting berth:

'There's a lot of good players in the squad now who can play all across the back four, no one can take a place for granted at all. Dunney is brilliant, I've learnt so much from him and I'm hoping I can keep learning from him. It must be a frustrating time for him, but hopefully it won't be too much longer before he's back, and then that will add further competition.'

Going to be interesting to see what happens when Dunne is back to fitness. You would imagine Paul Lambert will give him the same chance that he has given everybody else (or will he go the way of Hutton and Warnock?) and if Dunne takes that chance, will we see Clark go flexible again or will we see our back four further rotated?

It's good to have someone on the bench with Dunnies experience. And, the way we're picking up yellow cards, he'll have his chance in the first team fairly quickly.

Dont worry - if he plays he will soon catch up in the yellow card race :)

clark needs to keep on his toes whenever dunne's around what not with the own goals and penalties given away =/ haha! still think dunne is a solid defender!

Clark knows, just like the rest of us, that Dunney is persona non grata because of his wages. Villa's dishonourable management have been trying to work him out since Houllier was made the attack-dog.
