Gabby Needs To Be Consistent

Gabby Needs To Be Consistent

Paul Lambert has called on Gabby Agbonlahor to be consistent following his Man City form, as those types of performances leave him unplayable against.

Speaking to Sky Sports and basically giving a very good hint that Gabby could well have worked himself into a starting position for the Albion game, Lambert called on him to improve further and show his best form more regularly so he can be the player we all expect him to be:

'Every time I pick a side it's hard, but Gabby's performance the other night was exceptional. His two goals were fantastic and, if you get Gabby firing on all cylinders, then he is a handful. Consistency comes from within, he's at an age now where he has got to get consistency in his game, because when he is on song like that, there aren't many people who can stop him because his speed is incredible. He is a strong, likeable guy, and at this moment in time, he is playing really well.'

There's no doubt that Gabby is showing his best form at the moment, looks interested again and looks to be enjoying himself back on the pitch so all is good.

A great display against City, let's hope that's his benchmark for the remainder of the season. He's a big player for us, one of our experienced lads, and like the others, he needs to step up and be counted this season to help tide us over the bumpy moments of the youngsters bedding in.

Gabby has been one of our biggest threats in derby games - let's hope he can do it again thi weekend.

He's dead right its all about consistency with Gabby... If we could get 20-25 high level performances from him this season it would be great...

He caused havoc off the bench a few weeks back too, think that was vs tranmere or Newcastle.

Badger the reason i think he creates frustration is that he's promised so much and hasn't lived up to that promise , brilliant one day off the next and he'd always be in the team. The situation has now changed, if he plays well and delivers goals consistently he'll be hard not to pick, Lambert will not allow a key forward go half a season without scoring, he'd be dropped, we now have options on the bench. Maybe he should be used as a sub more, bring him on when defenders are getting tired and use his speed in short spells. Much food for thought?

The problem with Gabby has always been the second half of the season. So often he starts very well and then fades out the after christmas. Given more rotation (not MON rotation) I think he will stay sharp and be a massive player for us.

How can you dislike someone who's come through the ranks and loves the club, Gabby is a legend and a weapon. Lets hope PL can get that consistency in his game as we need him.

He's not "strongly disliked" badger0-0, it's because he is so inconsistant and his stats show he isn't good enough IMHO because - once again, his inconsistancy. As Astriel quite rightly points out, he needs to perform for the whole season, not just up to approaching Xmas.

Gabby has his critics at Villa because we can see he has the ability to be a top level player but unfortunately the wheels always come off the wagon at certain points in the season and all his ability eludes him... Again this is all consistency... When MON left Gabby went to the dogs he was very poor... Houllier attempted to implement a more technical game plan which really highlighted the weaknesses of Gabby... Eck came along and Gabby started off pretty well but soon lost motivation I was ready to let him go based on the past two season... Im not going to say we should keep him now because he played well for 2 games this year but if he can reproduce this form at 90% for the majority of the season Gabby may well force his way back to the national stage... Like some have said Lamberts rotational/competition policy could be key to unlocking Gabby... Theres enough between Bent, Benteke, Gabby and Andi for each player to aim for better...
