The Week in Villa (8)

Wednesday, 19th September

Marc Albrighton is delighted to be back in training. I am delighted he`s back too. I think I might be in the minority on that one, but alas, that is my view!

We beat Celtic 2-1 in the NextGen tournament with goals from Samir Carruthers and Malcolm Melvin.

Okay, seriously, surely Malcolm Melvin should be a classy inside right in the 1930`s or something, right?

Thursday, 20th September

Emile Heskey has now *officially* joined Aussie side Newcastle Jets. I thought that happened last week. I was wrong.

Owen Coyle expresses an interest in taking Stephen Warnock on loan. He describes him as 'versatile`. I concur; he can be rubbish all over the pitch.

Friday, 21st September

Warnock now has gone to Bolton. Don`t let the door hit you on your overly-ample backside on the way out, eh? Honestly, for a 'professional athlete` who isn`t exactly the biggest bloke you`ll ever see, Warnock has a ridiculously massive behind. It can`t be right.

Paul Lambert suggests talk of Nigel Adkins being in danger of the sack is ridiculous. Well, it is, isn`t it! Although hopefully we can put the pressure on a bit more tomorrow…!

Saturday, 22nd September

What a strange game. We basically never really got going, in the first half we were the slightly better of two bad teams and in the second, Southampton picked their game up a bit but it was never a 4-1 performance. There was also a massive slice of luck about two of the goals but whatever, we didn`t deserve to win anyway.

Apparently Stephen Ireland has broken his arm too.

A nice easy trip to Man City in the League Cup is up next, need that don`t we!

Sunday, 23rd September

Lots of post-match stuff, it`s all a bit depressing, so I`ll move on!

Monday, 24th September

Similarly, today has all been about, "Stay strong, bounce back, performance from the fans' etc

Tuesday, 25th September

You know if you had said to me, "Southampton and Man City, both away, you`ll win one of them 4-2 and lose the other 4-1", I`d have said, "Yeah, sounds about right" but OBVIOUSLY, I would have had it the wrong way round. Superb night! Sadly, with me not being there and the game not being on TV, plus, you know, those other ways of watching games - not that I would know about that kind of thing - not being available, I`ve only seen the goals. But by all accounts it sounds like Gabby owned the night, hopefully he can spend the rest of the season proving me right!

Baggies on Sunday, really not sure what to make of it, after this week I will just enjoy the ride…!

Nice one. Always a good read Sheriff, though I can't see Gabby spending the season proving you right....sorry.

I can't say i've ever studied Warnock's arse mate tbh, but i concur, i'm glad it has left the building. Also, the highlights from the Citeh game are on AVFC and make for an entertaining viewing! A great night for Gabby indeed and shows what he can do when played in his position of strength. Not that he can't play a blinder and supply loads when out on the wing either.

Ha, I don't study the thing, it's just THERE! As for Gabby, not expecting a couple of goals every game, I just think he's a far better player than so many give him credit for, and I feel he gets unfairly slated by too many of our fans when some of our other players get protected by those same people

"Jekyll & Hyde week. Aston Villa ain't we..." totally, fun innit?!
