'If It's Football, It's Vital'

We Owe The Fans A Performance

Joe Bennett has said the team owe the fans a performance following our capitulation against Southampton, and he believes we are more than capable of doing that against Manchester City.

Speaking to the Official Site, Bennett called on the team to move on quickly, put the disappointment behind us, and take advantage of our underdog status when we face City in the Cup:

'The lads were obviously disappointed, we lost some stupid goals. We were down in the dressing room but we have the character to bounce back from this definitely. We want to learn from what happened and move on quickly. We're going to the Etihad and not many are expecting us to win, that can be a good thing. Hopefully we can go there and do a really good job.'

Bennett added about his first real experience of our fans:

'Our fans were quality, they came in massive numbers and sang all game. It's such a shame they had to leave with a disappointing result.'

The City clash is definitely going to be a good test for the team, and it'll be interesting to see who Lambert leads with.

Does anyone know if Nanny Fifa allows squad no.s above 100 ? There is a trend for 99 at the moment (Wagner Love at Flamengo for example) so someone will want to go there. I m sure Chelsea must have asked this question before, out of necessity. Maybe you can do the numbers a bit smaller like a motorcycle numberplate so the squinty eyed ref cannot see who you are from afar. Reason I ask! I think the Man With No Number, Courtney Cameron - who has been promising - should be integrated into the squad, with a squad no of 666. That would send a message to the opposition. And then we could run out to Track 1 Side 1 of the debut Black Sabbath album. I know Ozzy and Geezer would love that (royalties, mate), Plus - I guarantee you - it will clear the away stand before kickoff. Actually I challenge anyone to sit through it - its on Youtube, the album cover has a young Victoria Beckham on it from when she was only about 300 years old. Incidentally, maybe they should review the voting patterns for the vote that decided the run out music for the Everton match.......was it an Internet vote by any chance ? Unusual clustering of IP addresses from the Los Angeles area you say ??

It was hard Clive, it was hard. The minions around me hadn't even thought to bring me a packed lunch or anything. Very disappointing!!!!!!

Johnny, I don't think I'll be talking to you for a few days after tonight!

;o)
The Fear
In all seriousness, I am never sure these sort of interviews are sensible. I know they have to say something, but we were tonked by a newly promoted team, I think the next 'we owe you' should be done on the pitch? Also, not sure, at the moment, they do 'owe us' as they are still gelling, they did put in the effort, they just weren't good enough on the day.
The Fear
I am not saying for one minute that we should not do our best to win this game, BUT if you want to owe us a performance for gawd sakes make it the baggies game.
