Benteke's Been A Handful In Training

Benteke's Been A Handful In Training

Paul Lambert has said he doesn't want fans to view Christian Benteke as our 'saviour' but does admit he's been a handful in training and should have a big career ahead of him.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the Saints clash, Lambert said of our bulky youngster:

'Once he settles and grasps the language well, he will be fine. He was a handful the other weekend and he's been a handful in training this week. He's only 21 though, people have to remember that. He will make mistakes like everybody else. I am not putting too much emphasis on him, in terms of him being our saviour, not at all. But he will certainly help the team.'

Sensible outlook really, everyone is getting carried away with Benteke, me included, but we do need to give him time to settle in properly and learn the language so he can really push on.

I'm getting carried away because its a while since we signed someone who came on the pitch and was the real deal from the first moment he touched the ball. He's also a striker who actually scores goals, which is something our other strikers forget to do. Hope he starts tomorrow.

I'm not getting carried away tbh, he has done well so far (20 mins) it is early days and we have a harder working Bent, a fit again Gabby and a hungry Weiman all wanting to grab a slice!!

I think benteke-agbonlahor would work well to be honest, can see big Ben flicking balls on for gabby to speed on to. Will be interesting to see how gabby copes actually- only the other day he said he didn't want to be put out on the wing, now he can't get on the pitch!

With the four options that we have it creates the competition up front that we need. Players picked on form now and not just on merit and their name. This will also leave our opposition guessing which isn't a bad thing. UTV.

two words of warning here thinking about debuts - Darius Vassell. Dont think this is the same mind you but has anyone thought about next summers xfer window if he scores himself stupid this season - be tough to keep hold of. Another test of resolve for Our Illustrious Chairman.

I want to see him paired with Wieman, I really think that the 2 of them would compliment each other well.
