England played last night so there is very little going on today.
Thursday, 13th September
It is another quiet day today. Gabby talks about the improved competition for places up front. Personally I think he looked sharp in pre-season before getting injured but looked good again against Newcastle too when he came on. I have always been a fan of his and I find some of the criticism of him to frankly be a bit bizarre, but whatever, each to their own. The nice thing is that him, Benteke and Bent will be battling it out, with Weimann and Bowery waiting for any opportunities, and so no-one can afford to let their form slip - ask Shay Given.
Friday, 14th September
Lambert gives his pre-match conference and answers pretty standard questions about the goalkeeper change, new signings and all that kind of thing. Must be a pain for journalists in a way but I have no problem with it at all.
In ex-Villan news, Everton have been linked with a move for Der Hammer.
Genuinely looking forward to the game tomorrow, we played well at Newcastle and hopefully we can build on it. Swansea play nice stuff and it should be a good game.
Saturday, 15th September
It was a good game, and it was one of those days where things just went well. I feel we deserved the win, albeit Swansea will feel they should have done better with a few chances. That said, we can also say that and overall I felt we edged it.
All in all, it was just a good day: Guzan continued to justify Lamberts faith; Vlaar, a clear captain in the eyes of many, was given said job and put in a monster performance; Lowton, who continues to look like he was playing Premiership football all along, grabbed a cracking goal; Benteke looked good when he came on (THAT miss aside) and grabbed a debut goal, which is always a dream for a striker; and Brett Holman, the only thing that will be remembered as any of use of the previous managers regime, put in a right shift and was given a standing ovation when he came off. Everyone else did their jobs properly too.
In other news, the U-18`s won 2-0 away at Man U with a double from Callum Robinson.
As I said, it was just a good day!
Sunday, 16th September
The ladies lost 2-1 away to champions Sunderland; Katie Wilkinson grabbed the goal.
Dion Dublin was on MOTD2 with R*bbie S*vage, but sadly Dion didn`t 'batter him` like Villa fans everywhere were urging him to do.
Monday, 17th September
The club announce an open training season at Villa Park on 22nd October.
Alan Hutton and Stephen Warnock are available for a loan. Good.
Tuesday, 18 September 2012
Speaking of, neither feature in the team photo either.
Emile Heskey joins Australian side Newcastle Jets, as Geordies everywhere panic briefly when seeing 'Heskey joins Newcastle` headlines.
Nathan Delfouneso grabs a double for Blackpool; maybe getting a proper run somewhere will do him good.
Various people at Southampton have said that their season starts against us. Hopefully we can postpone that another week…
