Villa Need To Get Back On Front Foot

Samir Carruthers has called for the U19 team to be at their very best to get us back into contention in the NextGen Series after losing our first two games.

Speaking to the Official Site Carruthers said the team will be looking at the Celtic clash as a fresh start, and they want the win to get the tournament back on track.

'In last year's competition we only lost two games in the group stages and they were away from home. Losing a home game has put us on the back foot a bit. We will start again on Wednesday and hopefully we can get the first three points of the campaign.'

It has been a disappointing start given their progress last season, but there is time to turn it around and as Sammy said we certainly have the players, we just need to focus on creating more opportunities and then taking them when they come along.

Many of the stand out players from last season are no longer eligible so I guess its up to the next wave of nexgen kids to step up. If I remember correctly Gary Gardener was instrumental in the nexgen games last year so he will be a big miss for them.

There are a few missing from last season yes, but I think the nucleus is still there. But yes, they need to win this onedon't they......
