'If It's Football, It's Vital'

15/9/12 - The Lions Roar Again!

You have to go back to the Fulham game last season - yes last March - to see the last time Villa won in the league courtesy of an injury time winner from Andi Weimann.

And whilst you could argue that game wasn't one of the worst that season, it was nothing compared to the spirit, effort, determination and style the lads showed today against Swansea.

They'll be more hiccups along the way as Lambert tinkers and the players get more used to our our new style, but if the Match Thread is anything to go by, and the comments being made - especially those saying they are proud to be a Villa fan again after that display - should we mark today's date down as the moment we have finally turned the corner and we are back on track after a number of, erm, disappointing seasons.

I think more than anything, given how good a performance that was, we can all still see where we can improve further. Cut out some errors, be positionally better, be sharper in passing.

We are far from the finished product yet, yet that game, building and improving on our performance against Newcastle, was a breath of fresh air.

Well done one and all, the commitment of the team today fully deserved three points, and I'd guess the first round is on Paul tonight.

And that's without praising people individually for their performances, which would be so easy - especially for a certain debutant - but there's no need for me to do that today...that was a team success.

Isn't it nice to hear Villa Park in agreement and full voice!

I actually feel guilty for going out tonight and missing the match - even though it would have only been via here and the internet. But I agree with others, I once again feel proud to be Villa as this squad can only get better.

I'd almost forgotten what being a footie fan was supposed to be all about. On my feet, cheering and applauding. That hasn't happened much in the last two years. What a performance. Credit to Swansea too. They came to try to win and made a real game of it. Still euphoric.

Well done Villa, you just wanted it a bit more than us today. Paul Lambert did a job on us again, closed us down, gave our wingers no room and prevented our full backs from getting forward. A bit lucky with the goals but overall you deserved the win. Good luck with the rest of the season. A Swans fan.

Thanks Phil W - just your attitude on this forum will make sure I am rooting for Swansea this year!
