Lambert On Benteke And Westwood

Ahead of their likely debuts this weekend, Paul Lambert has talked briefly about what he feels Ashley Westwood and Christian Benteke will bring to the team.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of Swansea game, Lambert first talked about Benteke.

'I think he will be a handful. I watched him against Croatia and he was excellent, the way he played. He is only a young lad but he will be a handful.'

Christian Benteke Forum Thread.

On Westwood he added.

'The opportunity is there for him. I said to him, go and grab it. In training, he has been excellent. It's when the match starts you have to step up the plate which I'm sure he will do.'

Ashley Westwood Forum Thread.

Sounds very much like these two will be playing some part in the game. I think I'd expect Westwood to start, with Benteke coming on in the second half as you'd assume Lambert will lead with Darren Bent and Gabby Agbonlahor?

I expect Bennett & Westwood to start with Benteke coming on as sub. Bowery I expect will be a project and appears ostensibly to be a Benteke-esque understudy.

I wouldn't assume anything with Lambert , Mike

Got to be difficult to drop anyone after the Newcastle game, why do I feel we are on a roller coaster lol If the manager can keep us guessing must be worse for the oppositions manager. What a great feeling to look forward to the weekends again instead of dreading them like last season
Merlin128777
At last none of us can name teh starting 11 which is a great change over last seasn. I must say I do not know whay but i am very excited about te game Tomorrow. I see us getting a home win in the league at long last. COTVABU

Drop Bent
Villan444
Last season? Villa didn't play any professional football at all last season did they? Sorry it's been etched from my memory!! (We certainly didn't play football professionally lol)
thorpyuk
I would stick Benteke up front with DB9 from the start. Gabby on the bench, possibly coming on for the last 20-25 minutes against a tiring defence
Pride of Lions
Agreed Pride - all going to be based on how they have gelled in training. No-one is guaranteed. No-one should be dropped without reason though - that's just stupid.
koolbill
Bent hasn't scored for donkeys and he does nothing else half well so if he's not scoring he's useless. He tried hard against Newcastle but his ineptitude was evident. I reckon that's a good reason to drop him to the bench....
Villan444
Or preferably sold to get him off the wage bill. Our wage bill is too high incase anyone didn't know. What better way to get it down!! I could do fatboy Faulkner's job at this rate.
Villan444
He's not fat he's big boned!
Steff_the_Villan
I'd start Benteke for sure. No question. We need someone to muscle Swansea's back four a little, and I reckon he'll prove to be a great signing.
Lee282
Hate to say it, but i don't see Bent as part of Villa's future plans
Lost_In_Ca
444, change the record for McGraths sake. We get it......you dont like him.
GibboVilla
Swansea pass really well so it is up to us at home to really rattle them. Fast tempo from the start and unsettle em at the back as they have injuries. Tight game really with the odd goal winning it imho, let's hope its our way. UTV.

Lol Gibbo, was trying to reel koolbill in but genuinely agree with what lost_in_ca said. Who'd buy him in this day and age though?? Only an old manager. Shame he didn't like it in Sunderland MON.
Villan444
Looking forward to seeing how the new boys get on. Confidence is high and the changes the club have made have meant a whole new psychological approach with the dead wood being shipped out or bombed down the ranks as enthusiastic, hungry players come in. I'd love to see Gabby and Benteke start.
Villa_Grizzly
444 - - Reel me in? Are you trying to Police me or this site? Do you have delusions of being in power or authority. Yep, what we nede is a link man like Heskey who doesn't score. Definitely. Consider me reeled in.
koolbill
P.s Gibbo: totally agree, would be nice to hear the B side occasionally.
koolbill
Lol bill. Got you in the end. Knew you couldn't resist. It's only banter, no idea about policing?!?! Notice the prolific one failed to score again!!! 0 goals in 4 games!!!! Again, it's only banter and we all want what's best for Villa, not everyone will agree on how that's best achieved...
Villan444
P.S. the b side is Bannan out but he's playing much better these days so I'm leaving the a-side extended version on repeat...
Villan444
Fair play - think we baited each other tho - ooo matron that sounds wrong. Bent is now setting them up as the link player lol! Apparently according to another site - of all players attempting 10+ passes Bannan has a 45% completion rate which is second in the EPL. I don't really rate him either - partially because he's a drink driver but mostly because he needs to keep the ball on the ground and aw his tech ability for precise through balls not worldies - so I accept your invitation to duet on the B side :-)
koolbill
Lets for a band then cus I hate the little**** :o
