Agbonlahor Relishing Competition

Agbonlahor Relishing Competition

Gabby Agbonlahor has said he is relishing the competition this season with Christian Benteke coming in - hopefully it won't mean we'll see him on the wing again though!

Speaking to the Official Site Gabby said he had a battle on his hands to win back a starting place - although it must be said he's done himself no harm with his cameo at Newcastle! - but he thinks the squad has a better balance upfront now, both in terms of experience and youth, and he thinks it's going to be a good old battle as the season progresses.

'I think this season it's going to be interesting because there's a lot of young strikers doing really well in training. It's going to be hard for everyone, no one is guaranteed a starting place.'

Gabby says it's the nature of the game as he remembers starting out at their age trying to nick a spot after impressing, and now time has come full circle and he knows he has to step up again to keep himself in contention.

Hopefully this is the season we'll see the best from Gabby again. The last two haven't had much to talk about in terms of praise, but Newcastle seemed to show he was back to his determined best.

In fairness the last two seasons have not seen the best of anyone apart from Doris the Tea Lady.

Lol.... and her apprentice - Gabby! I was all for getting rid, but fair do's if he starts doing what we expect and sprinkle a few goals throughout the season, not just up to November, I for one will be quite happy...........

Not likely to be playing on the wing as PL sets his team up quite narrow. Happy to see Gabby pushed wider in that format as his pace is between central defenders and full-backs is a threat, as shown at St.James'

PL plays wide sometimes but we don't really have any form wingers at the moment. Gabby should be a great asset for us this season either up top or as a wider forward. I look forward to him getting back to his best. Villa 3-1 this weekend!

For me Gabby lacks the football intelligence to become a top player
