Weimann Looking To Push On This Season

Andreas Weimann has talked about his desire to secure as much first team football this season as he can, as he wants to work his way back into the plans of the Austrian manager.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail after the striker found the net in Austria's U21 game against Scotland last night, Weimann admitted his aim this season was to be a regular in the first team, show what he can do on the pitch, and work his way back into the Austrian senior squad.

'It's more important to play for your club first because if I play well for my club I will get the call up for the national team. If I can play international football it can definitely help to improve my game, it's something I'd love to be involved with.'

Weimann was called up last season and looked odds on to earn his debut full international cap, but his knee injury put paid to that, however his old man said that the national manager was talking very positively about him in the national press, saying he would've played a part in the game had he been fit, so if Weimann can continue where he left off last season and start finding the net on a more regular basis, it can only be a matter of time before he gets his international wish.

Two spots up for grabs and four "strikers" fighting for them. That should see a better return from that department - if we can ensure we're supplying a decent supply from midfield etc.

competition for places, this will never catch on!!!!!!!!!!

It was a good poachers goal and he looked pretty sharp all game. Plus, Alexander Frei retired last year so Austria must be looking for a new quality forward. Lets hope its Weimann!
