Newcastle Was A Preview Of What's To Come

Brad Guzan has said the way the team pulled together and performed against Newcastle was a sign of things to come under Paul Lambert.

Speaking to the Official Site Guzan insisted that 'good things will happen' for Villa under the new gaffer, it will just take time to gel properly.

'We have a young team but we have a bunch of hungry lads that want to get after it and want to do well and prove themselves to the manager. When you put all those things together, good things will happen. Credit must go to the manager for the philosophy he's bringing, we're all about creating chances and we certainly did that at Newcastle. I think this is just a preview of what's to come for the season.'

Like many fans following the performance, Guzan admits there's a twang of disappointment that we didn't secure all three points, but he says nobody should be unhappy with a share of the spoils as it was a tough place to go. The positives of performing so well, and the confidence and belief that will bring the players could outweigh the additional two points as we head further into the season.

Can't argue with that, well done on a very good performance Brad :)

The lads did well, Brad especially. I know I always moan about DB9 but after watching MOTD at last, I see why he always hits it first time. All his first touches weren't bad but they stunned the ball dead. It was obvious what he was going to do. He can't get his balance to wind up for the shot unless he hits first time. You could see him winding his leg up. He did a good job for the team though and his link up was the best I've ever seen from him. Don't think that he'll last in PL's team though. I know it's only highlights but even Bannan seemed a different player.

At long last Guzan came for and caught the two crosses he didnt come for in the Blackburn semi final - I always thought that if it wasnt for that first half performance Friedel would have been history (& should have been after the final anyway because he was at fault for the Rooney goal). Plus anyone who saw Guzan in the 2nd half of the last-but-one (or two) USA-Brazil friendly would fail to understand why he did not move straight into goal when Friedel f****d off. Pus he doesnt dive for penalties before the ref's even blown to take it.......

V444: yayyyyyy Bent. Agree with most of what you said actually barring the bit about Bents future - if he carries on developing his link play and touch which was clearly a confidence issue - then his stock will rise immeasurably. It was the best performance for years by the whole team. I loved it - we actually worked as a team and the players are listening EVEN Bannan! Where was Benteke?

If Bent plays like that he will start to score and have a bright future UTV!

Nice to read positives coming from the dressing room.

just wish Ireland and Bent had taken their chances, not for the result (we had plenty of chances for that) but for their confidence. Imagine what they'll be like when they are on top form......
