Lambert - That's A Start For Us

Paul Lambert has said Villa will start getting better each week after putting in a performance that should be our benchmark for the season against Newcastle today.

Speaking to the Official Site after the 1-1 draw, that in all honesty, we should've taken maximum points from, Lambert reflected:

'I thought we were excellent throughout to be fair, offensively and defensively. It was a wonder goal which pegged us back but the way we played, the football we played, was very good. They were excellent, I have nothing but praise for them. They will get better each week and every game, it's a start for us.'

Obviously the key talking point was dropping Shay Given for Brad Guzan and although it proved to be the right switch given Guzan's commanding performance, Lambert did talk about the shift Brad put in:

'I thought it was the right decision for the football club, Brad made two world class saves, his handling of the game was fantastic.'

In injury news, Herdy has thigh trouble, Bennett has a knock on his leg and Fabian Delph has a knee issue, but along with KEA limping off today, Lambert thinks all of them will be in contention for the next game.

There are plenty of Villa fans lacking backbone and seem too quick to run their own club down. This was a good performance with several more players that will soon be included in the squad. However after one/1/single/solitary/ poor performance we are doomed, going to be relegated, down by Christmas blah blah blah. It is about time a few of the doomsayers grew some donegals and started showing some faith. At the start of the season I said that we would win everything this season. I stand by that. And if we don't then we will win everything next year. The Lion has had a little sleep. It has just opened it's eyes and having a think about who it's going to eat. Stay strong peeps. Talk our club up. There going to be a few maulings delivered by our Pride of Lions this season. We may occasionally pick a fight on the wrong pack this season and get a slap. But we will learn. The Lion is on the prowl again. UTV. The 19th minute.

You want people to grow a place in Ireland?

To be honest the concerns are warranted, but today should be a big boost in terms of it might not be a fantastic season finish wise, but it's a step in the right direction. Today for showed I don't think I'm too far off in my guess at 10-14 come the end of the season, but again even I caveat that with depending on injuries, suspensions.

Great effort. Quote from Lambert "the fans can see the players will run until they drop", if I see that - then wherever we finish, we can be proud.

i dont think ive ever been so delighted to draw in my life! a win would have been great but what a performance that was!!! absolutley thrilled! KEA looks like he can be the holding midfielder we all thought we needed to sign! i loved that diamond shape midfield it complimented the players we have very well. brilliant

Every single away game must be looked on that if you get 1 point that's a job well done, we got 1 point at Newcastle Utd, which was a great result, and a fantastic platform to build on, well done to all involved, and COTV

Love it! LOVE IT! Love it! So important to get a good result before the break but the most exciting thing was the commitment and style of play that we tried to implement. PUMPED

Much better. Unrecognisable from last season. Players were actually passing to one another and sometimes even shooting. It even looked like they were running! In all seriousness very happy with that performance and that's all I really care about at the moment. I'm very happy with PL thus far, he is definitely taking us in the right direction, results will come.
