'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Westwood Confirmed On A Four Year Deal

Well so says the headline on the official site, the article hasn't quite entered the interweb yet.

Will update.

Ahh here we go.

Link.

Ashley Westwood has said he will take the step up the Premier League 'in my stride' after tonight signing a four year contract at the Villa.

The 22 year old midfielder was a key player for Crewe, and I can't be the only one thinking about the last midfielder we took from the club!

"I see myself as a Michael Carrick type of player, someone who stays out of the limelight and keeps it simple, retaining the ball and laying it off to team mates and from the conversations I've had with the new manager I think that I will fit in perfectly here. This is a fantastic football club, a massive club and I can't wait to get started."

Westwood admits it feels a bit surreal at the moment, but says he'll take training and anything the Premier League throws at him in his stride and he's just determined to repay the faith Paul Lambert obviously has in him.

Speaking himself on the deal, Lambert added.

"Being captain of his football club at 21 years of age, I think that says a big thing about Ashley's quality, the responsibility he has taken on his shoulders and his temperament - he's a good player. He's also a terrific prospect, a real talent. He'll do fine and he will fit in with what we're looking to do."

If Westwood talks like that and plays like he says, he could be just what we need in the middle of the park, PL's project had begun!! Now for Benteke, exciting times UTV

Been coming on this site for years but only just registered because of this, im a Villa fan from Crewe and go a lot of the Alex games and Villa when i can. Westwood is a really good player with good composure and should fit in with how Lambert wants us to play. i'm also especially winding up a few of my hardcore Crewe mates with txts of "Ashley Westwood he came from Crewe, Now he wears the claret and Blue. UTV"

i think signings had to be registered by noon today to be eligible to play this weekend?
callum_ws
If he is anywhere near as good as David Platt, he'll do for me. Welcome indeed Mr Westwood.
Pride of Lions
correct callum, signings made before 12 noon can play, those after can't.
The Fear
