Westwood Confirmed On A Four Year Deal

Westwood Confirmed On A Four Year Deal

Well so says the headline on the official site, the article hasn't quite entered the interweb yet.

Will update.

Ahh here we go.

Link.

Ashley Westwood has said he will take the step up the Premier League 'in my stride' after tonight signing a four year contract at the Villa.

The 22 year old midfielder was a key player for Crewe, and I can't be the only one thinking about the last midfielder we took from the club!

"I see myself as a Michael Carrick type of player, someone who stays out of the limelight and keeps it simple, retaining the ball and laying it off to team mates and from the conversations I've had with the new manager I think that I will fit in perfectly here. This is a fantastic football club, a massive club and I can't wait to get started."

Westwood admits it feels a bit surreal at the moment, but says he'll take training and anything the Premier League throws at him in his stride and he's just determined to repay the faith Paul Lambert obviously has in him.

Speaking himself on the deal, Lambert added.

"Being captain of his football club at 21 years of age, I think that says a big thing about Ashley's quality, the responsibility he has taken on his shoulders and his temperament - he's a good player. He's also a terrific prospect, a real talent. He'll do fine and he will fit in with what we're looking to do."
