Word On Tweet: Benteke Fee Agreed?

Neil Moxley of the Daily Mail is working hard on updates with regards to the Genk Gent we are after... Benteke:

Neil Moxley ‏@Neil_Moxley_DM
According to Belgian press, it seems there has been a shift at Genk. They decided after last night's game Benteke could go.

Neil Moxley ‏@Neil_Moxley_DM
Hmmm, reports #avfc have agreed fee with Genk for Benteke. Can't believe the size of the fee is 10.6m after what's gone on this week..

Neil Moxley ‏@Neil_Moxley_DM
Genk are lining up move for another player and have ditched Benteke's original agent. That must be muddying the waters.

Pete Colley ‏@petecolley
Benteke deal alive....

Neil Moxley ‏@Neil_Moxley_DM
I've just checked in Belgium. The story he can go is right. 100 per cent. Knew there was something fishy about the rest of it.

Neil Moxley ‏@Neil_Moxley_DM
Still not sure about the figure, 4m, then 5.5 all-in, then 5.5 all up front. Now 10.6? Can't be...?!

Neil Moxley ‏@Neil_Moxley_DM
I thought there were 'other options' and this 'leaving it late' ensured better value...fingers X'd. #gladitsnotmymoney

Sorry cant get excited by this at all. This has been a terrible transfer window
We're Not Fickle
Really hope we get Benteke. IF IF IF we could add him and say N'Zonzi I think it would be a good transfer window. If those two plus either Zarate or Brahimi on loan, then a very good window IMO.

Can't believe people are moaning at the size of the fee. If we can afford, then we can afford it! It's not coming out of our pockets, I thought people would be happy PL is being allowed to splash out a bit!

I'm impressed with the transfer window so far. If you trust Lambert's judgement on the lower league players coming good, then we may have unearthed some gems. Benteke looks good (albeit don't know much about him) we won't be competing with Man City any time soon but if youngsters / lower league players come good, we could well do ok this year

I really hope we get benteke ? and zarate would be good

Benteke's Wiki page says he is a Villa player again. This was said earlier in the week and was removed later. Page also states that 'He is likened to be a cross between Lionel Messi & Emile Heskey'. Mat Kendrick thinks (twitter) that the deal will be done.

Reports from Holland suggest 10m (12.5m) fee

If this fee is true, what's the probability that Villa announce the signing as being 'for an undisclosed fee' to hide the fact they have had their pants pulled down AGAIN? This tactic of 'leaving it late' really works doesn't it. The people negotiating on Villa's behalf doing stirling work. Does anyone know who is actually negotiating for us??? Fatty Faulkner??? If we do end up paying nearer 11million rather than the original quoted 5.5million this smacks of a panic move (panic by caving on the fee, not buying the player!) brought about by naive people at the club. Other clubs don't seem to get hit like this. For example Tottenham enquired about Van der Vaart and were quoted around 15million. They left it late, played hardball and got him for 8million. Can you see the difference?!?!

Lol a cross between messi, probably the best attacking player in the world, and Heskey, possibly the worst!
revolutionatlast
I'll correct myself. Another club got their pant's pulled down last year. They are run by an American board who know squat about the game, with their mates surplanted in to positions on the board. Liverpool paid us 20million for Downing :-) If we are reportedly ready to pay 11 million for an untried rookie with no guarantee of success, why the apparent reluctance to pay similar fees for players who are tried and tested? 11million for an unheard of with around another 8-10million in wages over 4-5 years vs. Berbatov for 5million with 12million in wages on a 3year deal. The latter works out cheaper (Not accounting for sell on values but Warnock and Hutton are worth sod all in sell on value. You can't count on these!)

I'm with SJH. Doesn't come out of my pocket and I'm not a used car salesman or Daniel (tightest of tight arses Levy) so not really bothered. If he's worth 10 mil to Lambert then he's worth the money. It's more and more about the combination of player and manager than ever with the new styles of play. PL has saved a fortune on getting the rest of his lot in (if they work out) so an extra 5 mil is nothing.
Villan444
It may not come directly out of our pockets. But if it doesn't work out it is then used as stick to beat us with when the next bout of belt tightening and 'transition' is being explained to us (........and probably after all the season ticket money has been fooled out of us in the summer and after the transfer window has closed). I think it's a bad sign when even the press in Belgium are questioning the fee, asking what has he ever done to be worth that much. They see him play every week.
heavy d
So the club don't spend we moan, the club do spend we moan. As 444 says, whatever his fee, if it's worth it to Lambert that's what counts, and if he wants him, the board are right to sanction it. Can't have it all ways.

A couple of vids on you tube showing Benteke scoring goals by being brave and getting on the end of 50-50's. How long has it been since we saw that?
