Left Back Joins Up

Left Back Joins Up

Joe Bennett has secured his move to Villa today and signed a four year contract.

The 22 year old becomes our sixth signing of the season, and Paul Lambert is clearly delighted with the capture of the player.

Speaking to the Official Site as the news was officially announced, Lambert said.

'Joe's a really good player, young and hungry to succeed and he's exactly the type of player we want. There's no doubt in my mind he will thrive in this environment and he fits in exactly with what we are trying to build here.'

In 2010-11 he was voted Boro's Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year, and last season he was rewarded with the North East Football Writers' Association's Young Player of the Year, so he joins with some pedigree.

For himself he said of the move.

'I am really excited to have joined a massive club and I'm eager to fight for a starting place and get in the team. It would be great to go back to the north east this weekend and make my debut against Newcastle. I am very grateful to get this opportunity.'

Bennett adds that he looks up to the likes of Gael Clichy and Ashley Cole, as he himself like getting forward and creating opportunities.

Another good young signing...just depends on how well he beds in this season, but no doubt he's got a good future ahead of him.

Out of all the deals so far bar Vlaar.....this looks like the best bit of attacking business :-). Looking forward to the new look back 4. Just an experienced forward and CDM and we will be OK.

Player of the season business. Got to be good and we've got to back Lambert and his eye for a player as he's been there and done it. Bent and Bennett, hope we don't get Benteke aswell. DB9 will struggle. Lucky we haven't got Craig gardener anymore!! He always looked confused.

Good. Although Im going to pretend KSarge didn't refer to a left back as our best bit of attacking business. Even if it is true lol :)

Sit next to Leeds fan at work who said Bennetts already good enough for the prem, and better value for money if the transfer price is true, than if we'd met Ipswichs asking price for Creswell, so happy days!

Hopefully he's ready, he'll have to be. Nice positive comments above, hope he is as good as those comments sound, I know nothing about any current boro player so no idea! Lol
