Striker Set To Sign?

It's being reported that Villa will secure the services of 21 year old Chesterfield striker Jordan Bowery for 500,000.

BBC Radio Sheffield say the deal will be completed on Thursday.

Seems a strange link as they list him as scoring 10 times in 83 appearances since making his debut at 17.

Gets stranger though as the Derbyshire Times suggests the deal is 1.2m, and Chesterfield's CEO Chris Turner has said he has heard a whisper of a deal, but no calls have taken place.

They also say he finished as last season's top scorer with 12 goals. His stats being, 17 goals in 102 appearances.

You sure this isn't one of your strange dreams Fieldy?!
The Fear
hopefully a lower league bargain!
jaspervilla
Sounds like no one knows what's going on
VillaJ
So he has scored 10 in 83 but scored 12 last year? Mmmmm.... Hopefully a Good one for the future!
Phillip5150
Please someone tell me this is a wind up so i can have a laff cos right now i am not laffin i am feeling depressed gutted and worried, wtf is Randy playin at,, this is not the answer playing Bargain Hunt when you are bottom of the league and have the poorest squad in the prem league, we have had it!
ClivetheVillan
8 goals in 40 League 2 games last year.. this isn't real life surely? If this is true I'm officially *****ed off.
SchoolBoyError
Another, 'one for the future'. This 'future' must be a swell place, a bit like the end of the rainbow.
VillaWillRiseAgain
so 10 out a 83 and 17 out a 102 .....thats 7 out a 19 ,,,,getting better yes ? not to worry Benny`s o a jet !!!
paul muldrew
Got to be a wind up unless we're preparing for life in the Championship. Yes Clive, Bargain Hunt lol. Randy is really the perma-tan-goed David Dickinson. He never speaks incase he gives his cheeky chappy accent away and does a "cheap as chips" every 5 minutes.
Villan444
I pray it can't be true, what a laughing stock we have become recruiting players from that far down the tables and they can't score at that level,
andy3221
Yeah but he has 162 Assists in 102 appearances so not bad ey.
macca1087
stats look better than the hesk
Gruck
Rooney, Walcott, Benayoun, Joe Cole, Anelka and Drogba are either rumoured to be available or could soon be. If Randy Lerner was serious about moving the club forward these are the established players he could and should be looking at as well as up-and-coming 'youngsters'.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Well there must be something about him if Lambert wants to bring him to Villa. I'm sure he's not an alternative to Benteke and he could be a replacement for Delfounseso who I have given up on.
Stephen Jay Hawkings
Certainly not a marque signing.... more like a little tent...............
Pride of Lions
LOL Villa444 thank you dude for chearing me up i mean that lol cheap as chips lol thats Villa alright ;)
ClivetheVillan
LOL Pride LOL, i hope he can fire goals in the championship for us next season!
ClivetheVillan
And who'd be the first to moan if Randy got involved with the players we signed eh? Just saying like...cake and eat it?
mike_field
hey mike can you please confirm Lambert is not working to a poor limited wage and transfer budget please otherwise Lambert can only buy what he has to spend which seems to be peanuts ;)
ClivetheVillan
CHEAP AS CHIPS
ClivetheVillan
Don't mind us signing promising young players but we desperately need experience in the side. Who knows, this kid might be another Grant Holt. Anyway, http://www.soccerbase.com/players/player.sd?player_id=49760 this is the lowdown on the lad if you fancy a look.
tebor1978
I see no reason to get eited by his signing whatsoever i see no reason to change my mind on us being in the relegation places come the end of the season by this signing, where is the quality buy some foreign players ok not all young kids from lowerdivisions to turn a poor weak squad into a good ne we cant create let alone score, oh well maybe h tkets will be cheaper next season fo the wrong reasons!
ClivetheVillan
Personally I think Lamberts signings have been very astute so far. There is nothing to say that this lad will be a first team player straight away and if he replaces Delfonueso at some stage I will be happy. At least he might put in the effort.Another striker will come in. I've read comments on other websites like the bermingham mail that are very insulting about this guy just because of his scoring record. Thats a fine welcome to villa park, doesnt say much for the fans.We know nothing about him except that the manager obviously sees something
Lock
No more than you can confirm he is Clive. But his signings have been astute so far, it's a project remember and there's no point panic buying whilst the side are still gelling because then in 12 months we are back at square one having to build for the future and not the now. I do agree we need more on the experience side to compliment and help the youthful aspect we are going for though. The balance has to be right, but scalping lower divisions for potential future talent has to be a way forward.

I know nothing of this player but who's to say if we are signing him, he's meant for now. Meant to be thrown in at the deep end of the Premiership and be Bent's replacement as I've read. Who's to say he won't do a 6 month tour in the U21 league, or that the deal involves loaning him back for 12 months or any of the other options available...don't always have to go for the most ridiculous which is he's our new No9 now.
mike_field
Mike put it his way im not convinced one bit we are staying up nor am i convinced this squad needs anymore youngsters added to it, Agree we both do not know if Randy has offered Lambert any rel money to keep us up but going off what Lambert said a while back when he said he was interested in players like Defoe etc then last week said no way we will be moving for Defoe etc its very fishy to me soundslie he found out there is no real funds but hey im just guessing whilt panicking!
ClivetheVillan
We could be interested in Rooney, put the feelers out, and find out he'd want 500K a week. Being interested in players when a journo asks you a question (whether or not you are being polite and diplomatic or genuine) rarely equates to an interest in signing them. Nothing fishy at all, he knows what his pot will be, that would've been agreed when he took the job and I doubt Lambert is a man to have the carpet pulled from him without him making a stand.
mike_field
Agree with Mike all the way. It's about the player not the owner.
koolbill
moan, moan, moan, moan, moan. If its true (and thats a big if) then PL clearly feels he adds something different, maybe he's a Sheringham type or another Heskey who makes more than he scores. PL got his tactics wrong twice in two games and is still working out his best team and formation. It will take time for everything to gel but if it does we'll have a young exciting team and a platform to build from. This season will be tough and we need to accept that things will most likely get worse before they get better. We have to stick by the club and try to be positive
AVbornandbred
It's April 1st isn't it?
Villaininthemerde
17 goals in 101 games. Sometimes surely fans need a reason to be optimistic avbornandbred? Jordon Rhodes off to blackburn for 6 m apparently.
The Fear
THERE IS NO MONEY, rant over. I'm happy with the signings so far this summer and would welcome him as well. Everyone says are squad is thin but we add to it and they still moan. Everyone has said there's been no hunger in the first 2 games and all PL signings will give us that. I'll be glad when transfer window is shut so we can concentrate on getting behind the current team.
Aussie Villain
Look i have been positive all summer and backing Lambo all the way, but after the players we have released there is ore than enoguh for some quality/eperianced players to come in and help out this young weak squad call it what you will i know this squad needs better players than we are getting thats my concern not the manager but the money available to Lambert,
ClivetheVillan
I would have preferred Jordan Rhodes but Blackburn have him :-( This guy will be for the the future not the present, I'm sure. SSN have Benteke missing training sessions and Gonk! waiting for Villa to come back with a better offer. Not sure whats happening with Stephens or even how good he is??
koolbill
MF, AVB had a 'project too didn't he? It didn't work out. Not sure about 'projects'!
VillaWillRiseAgain
Clive, Lambert knows his pot, he's choosing how to spend it. Simple as that, you have to trust he knows what he's doing. Time will tell, and yes we need more experience, but there's nothing wrong with the deals we've done.

And with you Kool, wanted Rhodes meself.
mike_field
And why didn't it work out, because the established pro's stuffed him...just like Houllier. We either give the manager time and trust in his eye or we don't trust the manager.
mike_field
like Houllier??? Yes, give the manager time. Lambert still has the support of the fans from what I've read on this site. It isn't Lambo that is the issue it's Lerner and his apparent unwillingness to bring in some serious campaigners. Players who know the EPL or top Euro leagues. The two players from Feyernoord were a good start and there were some -- a few -- quality players already at the club but everything suggests a struggle during 12/13.
VillaWillRiseAgain
Yes, whatever anyone thinks of his PR, Houllier was undone for too long by certain players until they realised going down would affect their wage packets. Again though, people are blaming Randy, Paul knows what he has to spend, and his choice where he spends it. There's no getting around that. Our finances this season are in a far better state than the last two, yet Randy gave both previous managers (I'm averaging) 25m to spend. Why should we think, having better finances this season, that Lambert's total is much different? Just because he's using it sensibly rather than splurging isn't a cause for complaint from me.
mike_field
Stoke just bid 4 million for Charlie Adam. We should go for him at that price. We want players who are hungry and he certainly looks like a man who is hungry most of the time.
Lock
PMSL Lock!
mike_field
hahaha Lock, agree with all your points!
koolbill
No to Adam, not even half a Gareth Barry. Hope you're right Mike.....
Villan444
Hungry for a pie Lock...

Zarate bid in?
AVFC4ME
Zarate bid out, you shake it all about......
mike_field
lol Mike! http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfers-mauro-zarate-1286211
AVFC4ME
I know dude, but the last time I quoted the Mirror Cisneros was on a plane...and he hasn't landed lol This was 6 odd years ago lol I'll wait for a paper with more ethics than the News of the Screws!
mike_field
Surely if the Mirror say it's going to happen it's a dead cert?
AVFC4ME
Mark Delaney, Gareth Barry, David Platt, Dwight Yorke. Look slightly further afield and you see Kevin Phillips and Ian Wright. The skill of a good manager is spotting and buying potential. In a few years we may look back on PL's time and say he was a visionary genius with a knack of getting in before other clubs and making the club millions to help us win the League again. We might not. But to knock it before he has had a chance is typical of some very small minded Villans. We are not asking for blind faith, but some 'fans' on here are always moaning and seem intent on bringing the club down from within. The worst thing is that many of the biggest moaners do never come anywhere near Villa Park. I think that somebody commented that we have become a laughing stock for buying players from lower leagues. I disagree. What makes us a laughing stock is having 'fans' who make comments like that and who think they are 'supporters'.
voiceoftheholte
I say why not? Villa's transfer policy is clear now. We are buying young, hungry, talented English players. Why? Because A: They are relatively cheap B: They will gladly sign on for 10k a week C: If they come good their sell on value will be higher than any foreign player (except the best). I fully support this policy - I do not want to be putting our money into players pockets anymore, I think our wage cap should be 40k and that is only for top line internationals with 25 or more caps from top line competitions.
PiperUK
BTW so there is no point saying things like 'buy Dawson', 'buy Defoe' because we are not in the market for those players whether we can afford them or not. We are building for the future, I like it!
PiperUK
This guy is suely a back up for Benteke if he comes in, we wil try and mould him into a Villa player for he future. Kevin Davies came from Chesterfield and had a good career. Lee Sharpe - Torquay, Platty - Crewe, Holt & Jow Hart Shrews. Dont forget Butland made his name a Chel in le 2 last year and has played for GB & England since!! Why oh why do we feel we know better, I et really annoyed with so many of our fans. Other prem players cost way too much, we have to sign 3 or 4 of these and hope 2 work out!!
Chelt Villan
I'm with voice on this one, I would welcome any support in for the strikers at this stage and I would rather have young and hungry than old and devaluing. I've never heard of him so won't judge him, PL obviously knows more about him than us so lets welcome him in and get behind him....imagine if the poor kid reads this thread before he signs!
Tylervilla2012
In Lambert we trust!!
AdzVilla11
I do think Lambert is a good manager and do not question his choices. The only question I have is are Aston Villa backing Paul Lambert if as Mike says there is a good pot available something none of us know then quite happy to leave it to Lambo at a time when we need quality no matter whether they are young or experianced its the quality that counts.
Merlin128777
Chelt Villan / PiperUK, great points, well made. Standby for being accused of wearing rose tinted glasses and pro-Lerner. How dare you not criticise his 'loaning' of the money to us ;-) ....live in the negative past mate, don't look to the future through rose tinted glasses ;-)
