Tranmere To Get Us Back On Track

Tranmere To Get Us Back On Track

Both Nathan Baker and Karim El Ahmadi have talked of the importance of not underestimating Tranmere tonight, but they know we need a win to get our season back on track.

Speaking to the Official Site Baker said firstly:

'We need a win against Tranmere to get our confidence back up again, then carry that into the Premier League. The sooner the better for this game to come along really so we can get our heads up and boost confidence.'

KEA added when talking to the Birmingham Mail:

'It is very important that we go as far as we can in this competition. A lot of teams can spring a surprise on you in the cup because they are motivated by the chance to cause an upset. We have to show that maybe we can surprise a few people, I am aware of how long it has been since Villa won a trophy.'

As for the season aspect, he continued:

'We are only two games into the season but we need to get that first win under our belts. If we can get that then it will give the players and the fans confidence. The onus is on us to turn it round and get going now, and a win in the cup will go some way towards that.'

Just seen some words from Paul Lambert ahead of the game aswell - he equally told the Birmingham Mail:

'A cup is vital, it does generate a good feeling about the club and it gives you an opportunity to get to Wembley. I don't want to get knocked out of things, if you're in something you might as well go and try to win it.'

If Villa were looking for two datum points to measure their relative position, they couldn't have done better than choosing Everton and Tranmere. Everton represent Villa's best aspiration because their financial position is so similar. Tranmere, as one of the better division one teams set a useful base-line. Villa look like a Championship side right now and we are about to find out where they stand in the pecking-order. Even this Villa side should have too much for Tranmere but the contrast in form and confidence could not be greater, so Ronnie Moore must be feeling optimistic that they can bridge the gap.

We do not have enough to beat Tranmere from what I saw on Saturday , I just hope there is more desire and a bit of off the ball running from our team or we will be beat, come on Villa shows you want this !
