Lambert - No Magic Wand

Paul Lambert has expanded on his comments about meeting with Paul and Randy today.

Speaking to the E&S Lambert explained that there was no magic wand that he could wave, and he knows the battle he faces in turning round our fortunes, which is why he wouldn't get carried away when pre season results went for us.

'There's no magic wand. That why I never got caught up in the euphoria of it because I know what it's like. It's not a quick fix, I know that, but it's something where you don't want to be left behind. We have to start to win, that's first and foremost. The chairman and Paul and myself will have a conversation and we'll see what happens. I've got ideas in my head, if something comes available, then we can look at it.'

Just simply has to be movement doesn't there. The plan can't have been only Vlaar, Lowton and El Ahmadi?

Yes Mike we have to move some out and move some in but saying it and doing it are two different things
villan57
Should be an interesting few days.....I hope!
ormskirk
In Lambert we trust.
Green Villan
We are s'posed to be in for Kevin Doyle, if Sky Sports is to believed http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11677/8023998/Prem-pair-ask-about-Doyle
VillaJ
I wish he had got a magic wand.....a magic carpet would be nice too..... with some rich Arabs coming in to save our club.... we live in hope.
Pride of Lions
TBH if there are not the signings out there, then we cannot waste a bunch of Club money on dross that we lose value on and have to move on in a season (Hutton etc)
Charizma
Yeah, Kevin Doyle is going to pack Villa Park to the rafters and send the club back to the big time isn't he? No he isn't! If KD is the best Lambert/Lerner/Faulkner can come up with then they shouldn't be suprised if the club goes down. Absolute rubbish!
VillaWillRiseAgain
We need a CB....John Heitinga anyone?? Seems to be a back-up at best at Everton, and may fit well with Vlaar? Or Michael Dawson. Clint Dempsey for the midfield? Or what about Joe Cole? Not exactly a spring chicken but we are crying out for experience....
JuanPabloAngel
Oh dear, it all seems a bit amateurish doesn't it?
jonah
Hold on, if my timeline serves me correctly then this quote is pre-Everton game...so it's the E+S alluding to what the meeting outcome was/will be? Expect quotes after signings boys.
koolbill
This quote was from the press conference after the Everton game and not after any meeting.
Villa_Grizzly
Get in Grizzly!!! I knew I was on the ball or 90 minutes away from it...screw the Express and Star trying to whip up negativity (there's already loads)!
koolbill
My bad then folks, don't remember these quotes so thought they were knew. I remember him talking about sitting down with Randy and Paul, but I didn't remember the rest of it.
mike_field
I know there are a few on here who are questioning why some are spreading doom and gloom after only 2 games, but when you look at the prices for being relegated, Villa are 5/2!! yes 5/2, so you can't blame the bookies for spreading doom and gloom, they're just telling it as it is, we are very poor fullstop, we need money spent or those odds will drop even shorter.
eltoro
Yossi Benayoun would be worth a punt, Wilson Palacios aswell maybe. Really need a striker that can drop deep and hold up the ball. I wish Cuellar was still here.
Lock
cant believe they expected the team to do well. Too many 2nd teamers who r not good enough. No speed no height no power. The signings look ok should be good in time. NRC would be free. Tom Ince, one for the future on fire at mo. Rhodes in form witha shout and blackburns left fullback.
ShaneBlack
Don't get mad Villa Will Rise Again. Just a link I found. I don't like it either - Kevin Doyle barely scores by a striker's standards
VillaJ
Shane: agree with Rhodes and Ince.
koolbill
Agreed VillaWillRise...Doyle is rubbish. ESPN reporting that we have signed Christian Benteke from Genk to partner Bent. Anybody know anything about him??? I hope he quality...
Texasvillan
We've made a 6m bid for him according to the mail: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2194451/Aston-Villa-make-offer-Christian-Benteke.html?ito=feeds-newsxml
AVFC4ME
bookies bas 80% of their pricing not on facts about the event concerned or on expectation but on betting patterns so using them as a guide is just lain wrong as evidenced by our manager search
villan of the north
villan of the north, that's because they had no idea who are next manager was!! they have seen us play this season and think we're a 5/2 shot to go down, that price is based on evidence, 3 seasons ago we were around 25/1 to go down, if they offered that now even I'd take that price.
eltoro
@VillaJ, it wasn't you I was cheesed off with. It is Lerner, Faulkner and Lambert if a player like Doyle is their idea of a Villa player. I'm still backing Lambo and Randy Lerner has done a lot for Villa. However, the clubs record in the transfer market -- Milner, Young and Petrov excepted -- since RL took over has been dire. Do Faulkner and Lerner actually question the names put in front of them? Sidwell, Dunne, Collins? Now, apparently, Doyle too. Don't they know that they play football in the rest of the world too? Do they realise that are quality players outside the English leagues? Obviously not. Sheikh Mansour, Daniel Levy or John Henry probably wouldn't have Doyle at their clubs so why should Villa? The players coming through the academy aren't up to scratch either. Most British and Irish players aren't. The ones who came through at Manure in the 90's -- Beckham, Giggs, Scholes, The Nevilles -- were a one off. The scouting system might pay dividends long term but the immediate future looks bleak.
