Lambert Really Disappointed

Lambert Really Disappointed

Paul Lambert has admitted he was disappointed following today's showing, but he promises the team will pick themselves up.

Speaking to the Official Site following the 3-1 loss, Lambert did say he was pleased with how we kept going but admitted our efforts came after the horse had bolted.

'You have to react and pick yourself up. There's another game on Tuesday so you have to pick yourself up. I was really disappointed. You can't, in any game of football, give someone a couple of goals start. The only pleasing thing was the second half, we kept going but the horse had bolted.'

Lambert continued to talk about the fans pushing the team on, but it being down to the team to create the running and the tempo especially when at home.

He also said.

'It's my responsibility. I take the blame for it, but there's a chance to rectify it on Tuesday.'

Which makes a refreshing change after last season. However, in many ways he is right. We didn't create enough against West Ham but we were very solid defensively.

Removing Delph from the team was the wrong decision to take, and he sat defensively very well, albeit not giving us anything up front. And there are no excuses for the performance from the person who lost the ball or ran it out of play every single time it came with 5ft of him. What was it, one cross - to the position Bent was in before he moved into some space.

We can't keep carrying players and that's 2 for 2 now for our No 10.

A more balanced midfield has to include Bannan, El Ahmadi, Delph, Herd or Holman, depending on whether we lead with 1 or 2 up front. Leave Bannan to pick out the passes, and leave Delph to sit in front of the defence.

West Ham showed we created more with Bannan on, but we were weaker defensively, and to be honest we don't have enough movement up front when Bent is alone, so start him with Weimann and give the midfield the chance to pass forward instead of having to go sideways or backwards because there isn't an option on.

Most will want to know about transfer following today, so Paul ended with.

'If something comes available and I think it's worthwhile, then you can look at it. Randy, Paul and I will sit down and see what's going to happen.'

Now I can't for the life of me believe Lambert took the job with the plan to only bring in three players before the window shut. Maybe some options haven't come off, but there has to be other options out there that would improve the squad and give us more depth.

I'm all for the youth being given the chance as everybody knows, but we all equally know where we are weak in the team, and youngsters will make mistakes, so they need quality around them.

Another three in has to be the minimum really. I don't buy into the relegation worries some have at the moment, because with a better balance - dare I say the right balance - in the team, whilst we won't suddenly become a surprise package this season, a 12 to 15 place finish is doable. But without another three quality additions it wouldn't take many suspensions or injuries to totally derail that given how thin we are currently.

Mike, Bannan is a waste of fresh air mate shouldn't be anywhere near a Villa first team IMHO

Agree villan57 Bannan can sometimes pick out a decent pass but apart from that he is absolutely invisible! Championship is his level.

Mike, Bannan is useless. The midfield has to include all 5 of those if Bannan is one of them. Agree RE: Delph though, he was missed today. The manager owned up to making a mistake!! Hallelujah. He will move on from this and learn from it unlike Eck last year. He needs time and Everton were good, organised erc. There was a few good performances from our lads. They need time to gel. Bannan was definitely not one of them. We played 10 times better as soon as he left the field.

Would like to see a cash+players offer for Thomas Ince. That lad is going to be a huge talent. He's probably going to be a future England regular. To sign a player like that will show intent. Agree with the comment about Delph, MF, and second the two postings about Bannan, too. The former is developing into a key player for Villa. The latter won't make it here.

Agree with the three comments about Bannan!

Was beaten in every dept today by a good team with a good manager who has had 10 years as oppossed to ours who has had 10 weeks, although I think Lambert got his selection wrong today. We still look power puff goin fwd, not once did we see fullbacks overlap(Baker is not a full back and I thought hewas excellent when he moved across to CB) or wingers who beat a player to cross or just cross(Herd is not a winger & Nzogbia is absolutely dire). We were destroyed across the middle and although I feel KAE will be a good additon I think Bannan is a luxury we can ill afford on this showing especially in a 2 man centre against better players and more numbers. Now I like Bent and he is a finisher that we do not want to sell, but unless we work out a plan to play to his strengths than he is worthless and offers nothing and is passenger that we can not carry. Guzan is ever nearer to grabbing the number 1 jersey and do not think we can risk Weimann or the Fonz coming good and need a CF desperately as well as a LB, CB, CM, and winger. I am not panicking and feel we will pick up eventually but we need some players this week or we will struggle more than we possibly imagined. Today was a little wake up call that we can still do something about.

p.s Would really like to see Lichaj given an opportunity, has impressed me every time he has played!

marco have you seen the upcoming fixture list? Can't see where a win is going to come from on current form. End of October at the earliest, perhaps? Lambert has had ten weeks at Villa, true, but he was a footie manager and highly decorated player before that. He isn't a novice or newbie. Steve Wade has pointed out the lack of investment in the club as being the main problem. He's right. RL did shell out a lot on players under MON. However, MON squandered a fortune on mediocre-to-average British and Irish hoofers and scufflers. Then Milner and Young were sold. Is RL worried about history repeating itself? Perhaps. However, without serious investment in the squad the future is bleak.

Bannan is not good enough, end of. We seriously need at least 4 or 5 players. First team players as well, not a couple of first teamers and a few squad players. It sickens me to see Adam Johnson sign for Sunderland with us either unwilling or unable to be a serious contender for his signiture. Ricardo Carvalho linked with a loan move to QPR, why not us?. Swansea were only promoted last year and are a far more enticing club to sign for. That is a disgrace.

We could do with a few players for sure, but it's nice to have a proper manager talking sense for once. No need to get despondent, it's early days. I'd love to get Charlie Adam if possible, he'd really improve us. And a striker/left back is really a must tbh. Wonder if Chicorito on loan would be possible.
