Bad Transfer Window All Round? Not Just Villa?

Bad Transfer Window All Round? Not Just Villa?

Ok, so people are getting worried about the lack of transfers for Villa.

I thought I`d look how many other clubs have done good / more business. Not many really, or not any?

There is the list of moves as below. There are some who frankly, as much as I love Villa, we couldn`t get. But who have we REALLY missed out on? I`m not bothered about Sunderland paying twice as much (?) as he is worth for Fletcher for instance, are you?

I`m worried our squad isn`t strong enough, so don`t get me wrong, I`d love to see a striker, two defenders and a midfielder added, I`d love each to be bums on seats players (well, ok, not the defenders) but I can`t see it myself and think there is a new dawn coming, players fees will slowly come down as even the biggest clubs (apart from maybe Man City, although even they aren`t spending like they have) realise they can`t afford this to continue.

Fair enough our poll shows that Villa fans are worried. Seems 'right manager, not a strong enough squad` is now the call and some are still looking for a marquee signing. We might get one, but I doubt this summer. If we are struggling come January there might be movement, next summer even more, we are - AGAIN - in transition and patience (which is wearing thin for most of us I know) is going to be needed as Paul Lambert settles in, settles us down and gets us playing as he wants to.

The poll showed the worries:

Is Our Squad Strong Enough For The Season?
Poll Date: 14 Aug 2012

Still light 66%
Nowhere near strong enough 28%

Just about with luck on injuries 5%

Yes 1%

Unsure 0%

Just 1% think the squad is good enough. Strong results!

The transfers of note, I might have missed one or two, I`ve included the unrealistic but not done many of the lower league. Not sure much good business has been done anywhere, we`ve spent £8million ish? If we could get a couple more at least and maybe offload a few of the ones like Warnock, Dunne and Hutton, maybe it won`t have been too bad a window. But obviously, it has been a while since a really exciting entrance was done and surely the bums on seat player/s is where we now hang our hopes?

Is it to do with the Fair play rules or has the Prem league teams realised they cant sustain what they are doing ?????? Except for the big money clubs that is.

It is to do with FFP and financial market conditions and players holding out for wages clubs can no longer afford to offer.

You must be joking I wont bother with the bigger team but Fulham, Newcastle, Everton, Swansea, Liverpool have all strengthened well... Petric is 31 but he will net 15+, Anita can play LB and CM he is excellent on the ball, Michu was the top goalscoring CM in Spain last year andthe Swans got him for 2m because Vallecano are in debt, Kevin Mirallas signed for Everton (£6) he will prob become a fine striker and was the top scorer in Greece last year I think... Liverpool might struggle again but they have they still strengthened further Assaidi is the type of player we could have got... QPR still look poor but they signed Hoillet another player we should be looking at, West Ham got Diame and Alou Diarra to solid CM's, Southampton almost had Gaston Ramirez 15m would have been a huge outlay but he's 21 and recognised as winger with massive potential... I do trust PL and Villa but the lack of activity does worry me when I see some of the players teams have brought in... I was hoping for a top 10 this year but with that squad I cant see it happening... As a Villa fan we will always talk up our own but there are some there I dont particularly rate due to the last two seasons for me its make or break for Bannan, Albie, Fonz, Delph.. if they cant perform for PL with his system which undoubtedly suits them then they will never be good enough for where we want Villa to be... If we get a LB and a CF we should be in good shape till January then may be Henke will have spotted one or two bargains which will help us push on after Xmas... Ideally thats how things will go...

Agree with you CDX, just goes to show how poor our European network is, which is a little surprising since Houllier would have surely been onto that? (Although who knows what damage was done last season!). As for who we've missed, I'm still convinced Michael Dawson would be a great signing, even if we don't get anyone else. And Julio Cesar is looking to get out of Inter....a stronger challenge to the injury-prone Shay (who's form is also a little questionable in the last 6 months or so - poor Euros as well). I would think it will take Lambert all his powers of persuasion to sell the Villa to potential signings though - outsiders looking in for the past 3 years can't be convinced of our ambitions on the evidence...

Still hoping PL will bring in one or two more before the window closes.

The only deals that are worth anything in that list are: Adebayor Van Persi Anita Kone Rodwell Cazorla Ramis Vertonghen The others aren't that much to get excited over, other than those that have no link to the premiership, and really Villa have had the best transfers this transfer window, so far.

Our network will get better with Lamberts new structure in place - early days tho and we still have a lot of people to convince that we are a good place to be after the last three seasons of dross.

This new scout should surely have some available targets already on hs books? 3 players is a minimum before the 31st Aug (LB, Winger, Striker)
