Darren Bent After Striker Competition!?

Darren Bent After Striker Competition!?

Bit of a strange on this.

Is Darren Bent saying that Villa need to spend and bring in more strikers or is he just answering a press man asking what he thinks of the players we`ve been linked to?

Bent green close up

Usually a player will say it is up to the manager and leave it at that, but Bent told Sky Sports that he would welcome the competition.

He points out 'We've still got some fantastic strikers at the club. Gabby is injured, Weimann came in did and really well, Nathan Delfouneso looks like he's ready to peak and it's his time."

But adds if Paul Lambert does bring anyone else in, it will only go to help AVFC.

'Defoe is a top international striker. He's a great finisher, he can score goals and make goals for himself. He'd be a fantastic addition. I've played with Kenywyne Jones before and he's a fantastic striker on his day. He's up there with the best of them. If we can get any of them two as well, it's going to be a welcome addition to the football club. I've played with both as well, that always helps. So I'm sure the manager has got someone in mind.'

For me Defoe would be fantastic, BUT he isn`t available now is he? Spurs seem to be using him, if Appy Arry had stayed we might have been able to grab him but not now?

Should be working together, not competing against Darren. Not sure that Jones and Defoe would welcome playing with him as much as he says he would with them...

Spurs have signed big Addy from Man.City and are chasing two other strikers according to bbc gossip so Defoe could be available not sure it would work with Bent too much like Gabby for me. Difficult to buy a decent striker in this market most are well overpriced.

Jones would be a better fit but Lambert will need to sort his head out to make it work

It's probably more likely that we'll replace Bent with Jones and Defoe.

I think Spurs have been using Defoe simply through lack of choice, but then he has been scoring, so it's hard to say! But they've signed Adebayor now, and considering their strength comes from midfield, they might not be able to guarantee both of them starting places!

LOL bill, I hadn't until now. I didn't think that you'd be allowed to get that close to Bent with the restraining order and all ;-D

QPR are in for Defoe this afternoon - surely Defoe and Dawson would have been ideal signings for us? Clark is a good player and great prospect, but we have a definite lack of cover (and experience) at CB, while I would have thought a move for Defoe would have been a no-brainer? Maybe we really don't have a pot to ***** in, however much Randy sold the Browns for? If no one comes in, surely we have to play Weimann AND DB - one up front (if it's DB) just doesn't work for us.

Darren Bent doesn't work up front JPA Full Stop. Every team that he's played for, he's scored a few goals, BUT NO-ONE ELSE HAS in the whole team. He's never played for a successful team. Defoe and Dawson would never leave the Capital either. Dawson is the most overrated player in Prem history (bar DB9.)
