Lambert Won't Be Rushed On Signings

Paul Lambert has said that whilst he could flood the club with players who'll never play, he'll wait and see when it comes to additional signings.

Rumours were rife yesterday again linking us to Andy Carroll, following speculation about Kenwyne Jones and Jermaine Defoe, but Lambert won't be drawn or rushed.

Asked the question of whether we are in the hunt for a new front man, the boss said:

'I don't know. I will wait and see. You could flood your place with people that might not get a game. For the ones that do come in you have to make sure they're right. We will wait and see.'

Lambert did however say he'd love a squad of 54 players, and added:

'Losing Gabby has been a blow for us.'

Clear as mud that ain't it!

Lambert has his poker face on. Obviously Mr Chairman wants to wait until the end of the transfer window so he can hammer the prices down and ensure we have a couple of weeks without extra wages. I can imagine that phone call now and I'm sure the target clubs have got the message, I'm sure they already know who they want. We would just like to know. We are professional fans after all.
I'd want a couple of new wingers - we need better service or Gabby/Bent won't fire. olofthegreat, Dempsey is a good shout, but is a little old now.
Hijack Sunderland's move for Adam Johnson. Bargain at 10m.
Villa wont sign Dempsey and Dempsey wouldnt chose Villa when he can go to sit on the Liverpool bench like all modern day footballers... Our days of paying top whack for ageing players are gone and also he is the type who may be useless when he moves, Right player at right club now for me
Chelt Villan
Johnson and a new left back would do for me
Lambert is doing what our club does best, keeping things close to their chest1 We don't do our business in the media
onlyteaminthemids, couldn't agree more.
LOL Grizzly, can't disagree wth hat you say, by now Lambo knows as you say wh he needs and wants and its a case of wait and see
Would take Charlie Adam for 5 mill. Think he could give us the drive we need in midfield and link the midfield to the attack. As far as wingers go pity Albrighton got such a long term injury think this manager could have given him his confidence back.
PL is very shrewd as with Vlaar when he was made to wait. He's definitely got some lined up. Adam is too slow and aggressive. He is Hutton with a left foot. Johnson has played for a top 3 club. No-one who has will play for us in the near future. The wage difference is vast. Better than what we have but we cannot afford these players. We need to get these players before they make it and can then pay them peanuts before we sell on. Will take a couple of years to get our squad going with the new scouts...
Still a minimum of 4 players short for me. As well as Adam Johnson (see earlier comment)- a really quick left back, a driving midfielder (has Charlie Adam got the energy for this?) and a big bulky CF to take the strain off DB9. If anybody knows of a young Peter Withe, young Tony Dorigo and a fledgling Roy Keane, available on the cheap and ready to step up at Prem level, please write to P Faulkner, Trinity Rd,B6.
444, agree with everything you say, but it makes depressing reading. Some of us like to delude ourselves that we're still a big club (the only team in the midlands, even), please don't spoil it all with a reality check.
Although Holloway is being pretty stubborn, could be worth an inquiry into Matt Phillips? Scores goals from the wing, the type of player I can imagine Lambert would relish working with. I also think Dempsey would be a great signing, late runner from midfielder, who has very good awareness of space to run into and finds the back of the net, which sadly seems like a dying trade in Football. Couldn't see him moving to Brum from the capital though.
"Losing Gabby has been a blow for us"?.... PL has to be kidding! Dempsey wants European football so we're out of it. Agree with Matt Phillips. Swap Warnock for Keiron Richardson who wants out of Sunderland. PL has 11 days to get this sorted. Or is it Lerner holding this up agan?

2 of the summer signings voted by ourselves as best players on saturday in lambert we should trust to get the right type of player in. its going to take more than one transfer window to sort us out after next seasons window we should have a better idea of where we are. good point from pride is PL being held back a bit.
Story of Villa! We're never equiped for all 38 games, we buy our players at the end of the window or wait until Xmas. If we had our squad in place fore August 16th every year we'd probably have secured more revenue through European Football!
PMSL - suddenly because PL isn't waving the chequebook around like a nut case signing cast offs galore at hyped up prices he's being held back.... Some folks play too much fantasy football or maybe not enough. PL wil have been told his budget before taking the job. He will be the one deciding where best to spend the money. If the right players are available (right both in terms of attitude and ability) at sensible prices Randy will back PL like he has done with every manager we've had during his tenure, but there will be a fixed budget based upon the revenue expected this term and proceeds from sales. Whether the players will come to VP is a different question.
Look at the Ayew brothers, IMO, and maybe Keiran Richardson (good versatile player).
I can feel an article coming on. Laptop at the ready.....
The ayew brothers will 100% not be interested in a move to villa
It is the overwhelming view here in Blackpool that Ince is the one not Phillips. Phillips will probably go in the end, leaving Blackpool with the one they want to keep - who cost them an incredible 60,000 or nowt, from Liverpool, (I have read both) but either way that is next to nothing. Turned down 5 million for Phillips from Soton - he cost Pool 500K. Let's hope Villa can start to find their own gems at good prices soon too!
Watching everyone against Man u , we are going to get stuffed on Saturday if Everton play half as good, they're great
Can think of many mids and forwards that would make us better like Charlie Adam, Johnson, Ince, Philips, Jones, Sturridge, Rose, Bentley, Carroll but I can't think of one LB or CB?? We need another three players in minimum.
"we buy our players at the end of the window or wait until Xmas" - like Holman, Lowton, Vlaar and El Ahmadi ? No pleasing some people.. got to agree with you there Andy3221 I got up early to watch the Everton ManU game and they looked good for the win. Eek.
i've always though Figueroa from Wigan would be a decent signing at left-back. Not sure about his availability, but I remember we were linked to him either last summer or the summer before. Adam Johnson would be an incredible signing, at 10 million you can't not try! i'd offer 12m and have done with it! Defoe or Carroll would also be good for options upfront. Saying all this, I wonder how much money Lambert actually has to work with?!
thing is callum_ws what you have just suggested. johnson (12m) caroll (atleast 15m) figeroua (5m?) and we are spending about 35m on players who are not top class. whereas we have signed both el ahmadi and vlaar, for 5m together, they both look class acts. i really have faith in lambert. if he can get vlaar for 3m, imagine what he could do for 10m on an unknown!!!
Zaha. Rhodes. M Philips. Thanks. Oh and Creswell. Nice one.
Figueroa is a good shout, but I also agree Lambert looks to have an eye for an overseas bargain. Fingers crossed he has some more lined up because we need them and fast
