'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Expects Team To Generate Atmosphere

Paul Lambert has said he expects the team to help create an atmosphere this season, and they'll do that by going on the attack.

Speaking to the Official Site ahead of the kick off with West Ham, Lambert was clear would be going down their to win the game and give the travelling fans something to really cheer.

The buzz of his arrival is one thing, Lambert clearly knows the fans want the performance and they want the result to keep that going.

'We will go down there and try to win, that's important. I am sure the fans will go down there and hope to see us get the result. It's a tough match but I am not going to go there and sit on the back foot really. You've got to attack, there's too many come to watch. We have to go there on the front foot.'

Clearly that's what everybody wants to hear, so the most important part of the interview possibly comes as Lambert expands on his ethos.

'I have been brought up that way myself. I was fortunate to play at some really big clubs who had to win. I think that always sticks in my mind that you have to get on the front foot or generate some kind of atmosphere. It doesn't change much for me from first team to reserves to youth. You want youngsters and experienced players to go and express themselves. If a player plays with fear, there's only one way he's going to go. They'll be times when you think 'what's he doing?' but you have to give them that freedom.'

Nicely, he's also very honest about this approach.

'You've got 40,000 coming to watch you, if I asked the question to the fans and they said 'we're just going to sit and defend' I wouldn't accept it. I am the same as the supporters, I want to win. You might get turned over, but I think there's a way to get beat. If you get beat make sure you give it a right go.'

Music to this fans' ears anyway, it's all we've asked for. If we go down, go down with a fight. Go down having spent the energy, the passion and having bled the way those in the stands would.

Not too much to ask, and thankfully Lambert seems to get that.

Enjoy your Saturday folks!

Spot on Clive and it still annoys me all those pundits who said our problem with McLeish was that he came from small Heath. Let's go attack attack attack west ham and lose 3-0 woooo haha :) utv!

Yep, music to the ears indeed. I'd rather win or even lose 5-4 or 4-3 than close shop and grab a 1-0 defeat........

It was F all to do with Small Heath - it was his one million draws a season and most goals conceded from set pieces and fewest scored from set pieces. hiswhosenamecannotbeuttered was overrated and over here. End of.
