Unoial Villa News...

Looks like Makoun is off to Rennes. Makoun A Move To Rennes

Villa have appointed Michael Henke as our new Head of European Scouting. Henke is formerly the assistant manager to Ottmar Hitzfeld whilst at Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, before taking up the reigns of analysis and scouting at Bayern in 2008 when Hitzfeld left. So he clearly has the experience and is in the funny position of now being managed by one of his former players in Paul Lambert. Full article: New Addition To Scouting Staff

Predictions for where we`ll finish, including Savage saying we`ll go down, plus poll results for the 'is our squad strong enough`... 8th? Relegated? Is Our Squad Good Enough?

Disappointing result on the night for the lads, and it doesn't really reflect the performance they put in, but if you don't take your chances and the other team does this is what happens. Full article: NextGen - Villa 1 - 3 Sporting Lisbon

Shay Given has said that Brad Guzan is really pushing hard in training to convince Paul Lambert to give him a shot between the sticks....Guzan Pushing Hard In Training

Paul Lambert press conference ahead of the new season: www.avfc.co.uk

Dan Harrison: Charles N'Zogbia is determined to make a flying start to the new season - after admitting Villa supporters have yet to see the best of him. N'Zogbia says he is raring to go for the Barclays Premier League opener against West Ham after reaping the benefits of a good pre-season. The French winger admits his first season at the club was up and down but he is eager to get back to his best. And N'Zogbia believes Paul Lambert is the man to get the best out of him because of his positive approach. Full quotes: www.avfc.co.uk

Paul Brown: When you see Ron Vlaar coming up against West Ham's strikers on Saturday you may think his most prized asset is his physical prowess - but he insists that's nothing compared with the strength of his mind. Vlaar says the devastation of two long injury layoffs during his early years with Feyenoord toughened him up as a player. The powerful centre-half missed virtually two full seasons with medial ligament damage in his knee. But despite the horrendous heartache at the time, Vlaar insists the double blow made him a far stronger player. Quotes: www.avfc.co.uk

Villa are pleased to announce that today's Zebra Finance deadline has been extended. It means supporters now have until 5pm on Friday August 24 to choose to spread the cost of their season ticket over four months. This applies to paper applications ONLY. See: www.avfc.co.uk

So it's back! Yes folks, the football is back, and after witnessing the dedication (okay, so the greatest all-time Olympian likes a drink and a smoke) and sheer excellence of Great Britain's Olympians (okay, so not the relay), we must set all that good stuff aside and welcome back that shower of over-paid narcissists, we affectionately call footballers, in a competition reduced to a joke by stupid money, and something between incompetent and pusillanimous regulation.
