Guzan Pushing Hard In Training

Shay Given has said that Brad Guzan is really pushing hard in training to convince Paul Lambert to give him a shot between the sticks.

Speaking to the Official Site Given talked about the buzz in training and how passionate Lambert was, but said of his goalkeeping colleague.

'Brad is pushing hard for a place in the team. It's up to me hopefully to keep him out but he's a fantastic goalkeeper and the fans love him here as well and that comes from his performances.'

He also said briefly about the change in style of play.

'Anybody who's come to see us, we've changed the way we play a little bit and it's probably more attractive to watch and the fans will want to see us hopefully play that all season. Of course the most important thing is to get some results.'

West Ham is certainly going to be an interesting opener!

As for Guzan, it will be interesting to see how the season goes and how Lambert does utilise Brad as time goes on. There are a core of fans now who might not necessarily want Guzan in directly for Given, but definitely feel we should be looking to replace him.

Whether concerns over his fitness, sharpness and injury worries come to fruition or not, I'd be surprised if Guzan doesn't get a decent run at some point, although I think most expect Shay to start the season.

what is the accepted wisdom that you can't rotate goalkeepers when every other position is rotated by all large teams (bwim, teams with large squads, who these days tend to be rich, without necessarily being "big clubs" - phew avoided that controversy). just because we dont have 6-10 UCL or UL games per season plus extended cup runs doesnt mean we shouldnt rotate.

Exactly what I want to hear.

malacaxeta, though I can understand your principle in theory, having spoken to a number of lower league pro defenders, they have admitted to feeling more comfortable with a consistent GK behind them. I imagine as well the Manager would rather not risk a replacement GK making a howler.
