Exit Door Beckons For Makoun + Defoe In?

So, looks like Jean Makoun will not now be returning.

Having failed thus far to get a work permit and last night at the fans forum Paul Lambert said he "had not got a clue what he looks like" and would require "a sat nav" to find him.

This morning one site claims that Rennes are about to make an offer for the midfielder, although to be fair, there seems no flesh on the bone to that link, so who knows?!

Who cares!?!

And Villa have been linked to Jermain Defoe who might be looking for a new club having spent much of last season on the bench. The link is so stretched I'll not link to it!

According to the papers he's been signed by Rennes, which allows Yann M'Vila to move to either Arsenal or Spurs. Some transfer funds and a nice bit of wage cutting for us.

yeah, I'd not really take caughtoffside as gospel in all honesty. Pretty obvious he is going to have to find himself a new club though so hopefully Rennes or a.n.other are interested.

Yes gents. Think that Defoe would suit our new style of play very well.Sadly it could never work due to Bent not being top dog (which I think that he needs for his confidence,) his wages and don't think that you'd get him to move from Norf London atall.

love defoe as a player but he's not what we need right now imo. I'd rather see some more muscle and height added up front to give us a few options.

As I've said on other articles and threads, Defoe will probably end up at QPR if he goes aywhere. He prefers "the smoke"

caughtoffisde got that rumour from the Mirror not that I believe paper talk either... As for Brahimi I think PL siad he wasnt after him and there was no truth in it... I wouldnt mind Defoe myself but I will agree there is probably very little to the rumour, however, I will say Defoe doesnt seem like the kind of player AVB likes so I wouldn be surprised if they try and ship him out when they get a new striker...

IMHO Defoe's wage demands would be as gigantic as his ego. I can't imagine him moving to the Midlands and giving his all to the Villa. Moreover, If we are going to sign a striker we need a target man not another Darren Bent.

Would agree Defoe know where the net is but could not see it working with DB9 for Defoe = Gabby in my eyes. Would agree with Grizzly we need either a "Andy Carroll" or a creative midfielder to supply Bent (preferably both ).

have to say i am disappointed with this makoun saga. it is frustrating that yet again we have to take a financial hit on someone who i think would have been a good player for us. look where he came from and look who signed him ( a champions league team who didnt want to let him go, a manager who got us nearly playing football and had it not been for health i think last season would have seen the sort of stuff we are looking forward to this season) look at where it went wrong for J II the ginger one, yet again even now he is costing the club more money with his outstanding managerial decisions. i am also slightly disappointed in lamberts approach to this issue. you would think he would have reached out and had a conversation with him or had a chat with gerrard houllier about him in a football sense. we have as it stands left ourselves open to criticism from various circles on our handling of the whole situation. i know this is very chicken and egg, we have took the stance of "if he doesnt want to take an interest then we wont" but that goes both ways. there is a footballer out there who must have breathed a sigh of relief when ginge was forced out thinking that this was his chance to prove himself again alas this is not to be. disappointing because yet againg it is our loss and this time some of the blame lies with the club

The rumour going around I like is Kenwynne Jones. Not as prolific as Defoe, but a better option with Bent imo. Worked together well at Sunderland. Reasonable price. Reasonable wages. Gives us the option of extra muscle and ariel power when required. Wouldn't expect to start every game like Defoe.

too much speculation - maybe PL tried his cell a couple of times and it was turned off. Also Makoun doesnt need a work permit to get on a plane and visit for a few days - he does need a visa (I was surprised to learn) but that should be a formality. Seems to me he is "want-away". Is it too early to say I never rated him anyway?

Have to disagree with you deaf dean. I think that MakounII has shown a lack of professionalism since the summer. I agree that he was shipped out too quickly by McCleish, BUT he's had ample opportunity to call or visit Lambert and make it known that he WANTS to play for the club. It may well be that he is having permit issues, but that doesn't prevent him from communicating with the club/manager. When PL says he has no clue where the boy is and would need a SatNav to find him then that speaks volumes. And perhaps, just perhaps, it was that same lack of commitment that prompted McCleish to loan him out last year..... As Lambert has said, he wants players who are committed and will work. Makoun has shown no indication of either. Maybe he's bitter because of how he was treated by McCleish - but he's gone and Makoun had a chance to resurrect his career with our great club. He's clearly not interested. He could have even made a statement of intent through the media. It is not Paul Lamberts responsibility to go and find him! He's an employee! If I fail to show up for work and don't communicate my whereabouts to my boss he ain't gonna come looking for me and beg me to come back to work....

Just cos this guy wore a great jumper for his 1st pictures some people think he is a world beater. The guy hardly played a good game for us. I dont think he is powerful enough to be our holding MF in this league. His work permit issues are because after 2 years he cant speak a word of English. Does that not tell you everything. We say we want football to learn from the olympics. Here is our chance, if the guy cant put in a little extra effort to learn the language then surely this translates (no pun intended but I like it) on the pitch to lack of effort! Better off without him

Defoe always strikes me as a guy who knows where the net is, however I guess a target man is the thing we need the most to help Bent. Shame we can't get Andy Carroll, he needs a club to love him and I think he'd do well for us

Zaha is the boy for me fellas. And Rhodes. And Cresswell. Think that Bent needing to be the top dog for confidence has no substance at all and would hardly be the thing that PL would stand for.

Think that you're wrong about your hero there koolbill. (;-D ) He got the hump at Sunderland when they bought Gyan and he couldn't play with Kenwynne either!! 'Arry said that his Doris could've scored the sitter that Bent so crucially missed and he sulks off and is half the player. This is a player that needs an arm around his shoulder. He is devoted to his church (not that there's anything wrong with that,) and has his faiths and is a deep thinker. If he has too much time on the ball, or too long to think about something, then he will miss. That's why he only ever touches the ball once and is useless anywhere other than the 6 yard box. Maybe PL will teach him to do more but that's why presently Defoe is a better option presently. He can do what Bent does BUT can take on defenders and keepers AND create chances for himself also. I'm with you on Rhodes though and know several people who grew up with Matty Philipps who improves every year and is PL's type also.

No to Defoe, does not appeal to me, that ship has sailed and he cannot work with Bent so what would be the point in having a greedy big wage player on the bench...Next. Oh and bye Makoun, wanted to see you given a go here but if you wanted to you would be so again next...

I knew you'd take the bait V444 ;-)....Bent is actually my alltime hero and he should be in the Marvel films aswell. Arry lies to the taxman and couldn't even get the England job over Hodgson AND Arry couldn't even spend all that money and get sucess over anything but short term....over rated. Anyhow, Bent still outscores them all and is a predator, no-one complains about Shearer when he used to hang, or Lineker or the fact the great Defoe was that good he got sold to Portsmouth - McGrath rest that clubs soul when it goes under - and then bought back and kept on the bench by Pavluy-relegator-of-blues-hero-chenko. Don't know why devotion to a Faith was mentioned but it seems irrelevant unless you can expand? Also, nearly all footballers nowadays need comforting and ego massaging because it's the only way the millionaires perform - which is sad. Bent is bought and played for his strengths - TOUCH/TURN/SCORE. He is not a Peter Crouch, an Owen, an Adebayor, a Tevez...he is a Nistelrooy type player and I'm glad because he has shone in our underperforming team and has it in him to go for years more than the hamstring tweakers like Owen and Gabby who rely on massive pace but burn out young, sadly. Selfish, yes, productive, yes...possible going to be even better under PL...I blinking hope so as it'll be a better team for it. Glad you agree on Rhodes, what about Zaha? Philips is very promising. One last thing, are you sure about not being able to play with Kenny - people seem to think that the scoring stats disprove that..don't forget how good Teddy Shezza and Andy Cole were and they hated each other....and yes, it's my day off so I have lots of time to type. :-)
