Carruthers Looking To Push On This Season

Samir Carruthers has said his aim this season is to get more pitch time in the first team, failing that he'd like a loan spell to increase is experience.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail the 19 year old just expressed his desire to be on the pitch more after tasting action in the dying ends of last season - but he trusts Paul Lambert will steer him right.

'I've got to try and cement my own place in the first team, or maybe go out on loan. I just need as many games as I can. That's what every player has to do. I'm pleased with the progress I've been making and hopefully the gaffer likes what he sees.'

Carruthers adds as this is his first proper season of being considered a first team squad player, that it's been brilliant to be involved with the pre season campaign, and spending time with the more senior lads in training as it can only help him to improve further and grow into the player we all hope he will become.

I'm not 100% sure that Carruthers will play that big a part this season, but I can certainly see him viewing a loan spell plus 5 or so starts, with another 10 or so introductions from the bench as being a success for this campaign.

Like all the youngsters, let him come in without any pressure and grow into the role - if he can show that he has a final ball at the top level, and not just the fact he's tricky on it and will draw out freekicks for us around the box - that'll be a huge boost for us, and will provide Lambert with a great addition option as he's more naturally a tricky winger than anybody else currently involved in the first team and that change of pace upfront from the wings, will serve us well as he showed glimpses of in his appearances in the season we've mostly forgot.

can any of the new guys take free kicks? (with any kind of accuracy)

Perhaps he will go out on loan at some stage this season, but I'd certainly like him on the bench as some sort of impact player. He is definately a confident, tricky young player and against a tiring defence could reap some rewards for us.

lowton took free kicks for the blades and hit double figures last season (for goals, not sure how many of them were direct free kicks though). seems promising though!

This kid was one of the only positives from last season. Id prefer him to stay at VP and get his experience as a sub / starter depending upon the opposition. If we only play one up top then him and Ireland behind the striker could be very interesting.

I dont want to see him go on loan hes the best of the lads who have come through imo... he came from Arsenal and i think that really shows hes completely different to the other young guys... His brief performance against utd at old trafford is a clear indication of the type of player he is... he will be the best product of our academy iv no doubt about it...

Yes would agree we are going to need the lad this season even more so if injuries bite deep. But would expect to see a few cameos off the bench probably the most exciting prospect we have.
