'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lambert Takes The Positives

Paul Lambert has rightly focused on our goalscoring exploits today, as opposed to silly errors that cost us the lead on more than one occasion.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert rightly commented on Darren Bent's brace in the game:

'I think that is goalscorers, they like to live on that I'm pretty sure this will do him the world of good. They are invaluable to you, these sort of players who can get a goal out of nothing, he's made a living out of that.'

Overall Lambert says he's been pleased with the efforts in pre season, especially the change in footballing style that he's asked for which is probing rather than hoofing:

'You're playing proper football now. I'm looking forward to the first game starting but it's a tough game. The boys have been fine, you can't ask for more from their effort. We've played some tough games and they have done really fine.'

As for the goals against column in the game, Lambert said it would be something they looked at as he didn't believe it was an individual problem:

'We'll have to look at that as a team thing. I thought they did really well again. It's a tough place to come and everybody can see they are a good side, so we did reasonably well.'

Of course we can all pick out our own individual errors from the game, but with a bit better coverage maybe two of the goals could've been scrubbed out, but again, better for those issues to raise their heads now as opposed to when the season begins properly, and again in terms of the way the team defends specifically, Lambert will have again learnt a lot from the goals we conceded today, added to those against Forest.

As previously covered, Matthew Lowton was missing as a precautionary measure after taking a knock on his ankle in training.

Chris Herd and Nathan Delfouneso were also both missing with thigh strains...but it's not believed at this time that any of those are long term or worrying issues.

I agree with PL. DB9 is the man, but what happens if he's injured. Currently, nothing will happen, because we still haven't got a second quality striker..................

Biggest positive for me was that those two knuckleheads Dunne and Collins were not involved. RESULT!
