Any Qualified Referees Amongst Us Villans?

Any Qualified Referees Amongst Us Villans?

Hi Villa Fans.

I'm writing to ask if there are any qualified football referees here?

The reason I ask is that we are appealing for help with a ref review where a qualified ref reviews Premier League referee performances and scores them overall on key factors. This season just gone, we managed to review 40% of games but we'd like to make that 100% with your help.

Did you know, based on the reviews we carried out, over 30% of yellow card decisions in Aston Villa games were incorrect?

Over the course of the season, our refs have watched games for all teams in the Premier League and scored the ref on each incident assessing four main factors. Decisions could be one of the following:-

• Awarded correctly
• Awarded incorrectly
• Correctly not awarded
• Incorrectly not awarded

Another factor also considered was the type of decision and the affect (weight) it had on the game. For example, the ref not awarding a penalty carries far more weight than the ref awarding a throw in to the wrong team in the middle of the park.

The format used to review the refs is an open database, you can see minute by minute assessments and challenge any part of the reviews. Our refs will re-look at the video and amend if appropriate.

Ps, if a decision cannot be confirmed from TV footage as right or wrong, we give the ref the benefit of the doubt.

More information and links to the individual ref reviews for Villa can be found here : Click Here

We would really appreciate your help.

It is a start Lee, are your ratings marks out of 10 or do you have a different system!? lol

Not sure there are any qualified refs amongst us, also not sure there are any truly qualified refs left in the PL at all. Seems a really low standard at the moment, not helped by the lack of tv replay help, we have the technology, it should be used. Not really fair on the refs that they see it once, fast and live, we see it 10 times from all angles!

Hi, Would just like to say thanks for publishing this. I hope it proves effective and encourages interest from qualified refs. We are appealing so as to make sure our figures and data are not biased. With your help, hopefully we can prove that changes need to be made. SH

The Fear, I hear you regarding standard of refereeing. Hopefully, if we can prove something, we might just get listened to. Video replay in my opinion is the way forward but I still think it's open to discussion.

Agree on both counts Stuart. The worst time was when benches were allowed the monitors (I sit right by the bench at Villa and so I saw the replays as well) ... the manager would see unfair decisions from multi replays then attack the refs but the refs got to see it once!

The Fear. There used to be the old rating system of the quanity and type of alcohol/beer goggles required. If they were really good it was an orange. If they were exceptional.....well just oxygen was required.
