Villa Bid For Wolves Striker? Transfer Talk

https://www.facebook.com/astonvillaismyreligionvillaparkismychurch are reporting

Capital FM are reporting that Villa have lodged a 13 million pound bid for Steven Fletcher. Considering the source I would expect this is quite probably true, although whether the bid gets accepted we'll have to wait and see. I've seen a lot of people saying that he isn't good enough, he's too expensive etc etc, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, I am a big fan of Steven Fletcher. He scores a lot of goals with his head, can hold the ball up and is able to link the play. If Lambert thinks he's good enough and worth the money then we should all get behind him

Steven Kenneth Fletcher (born 26 March 1987) is an English-born Scottish footballer, who plays as a striker for Football League Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Fletcher began his club career with Hibernian, playing in 156 Scottish Premier League games and scoring 43 goals. English club Burnley paid a club record transfer fee of 3 million to sign Fletcher in June 2009. He was their top goalscorer in the 2009-10 season with eight league goals, but the club were relegated from the Premier League. Fletcher was transferred soon afterwards to Wolves, who also paid a club record fee, of 6.5 million, for his services.

Fletcher played for the Scotland under-19 team that finished runners up to Spain in the 2006 European Championship. He has since represented Scotland eight times at full international level, scoring one goal. Fletcher has not played for Scotland since 2010, however, due to a dispute with the Scotland manager Craig Levein.

22 goals in 61 for Wolves.

Certainly think we are a striker light in the squad, so .... ? A lot of money that mind you! On the flipside, not my money is it?!
The Fear
I have been saying or ages we lack a big man striker to help us hold onto the ball, Heskey could never score so was not the answer Carew was thelast big guy we had that could score, Fletcheri rate he was Wolves main threat and kept them up the season before last in the Premier League, 13million is a lot of money though but if Lambert feels he is the man as you say Fear i am not going to go against his expertise in knowing who we need for sure, he does score goals in a struggling Wolves team which is always a good sign, lets see if this happans as Sunderland want him aswell, Dazz Bent and Fletcher could be interesting UTV!

I thin he's a decent player but you aren't seriously telling me he's worth 13 million? More than we paid for Milner and Downing? If we are willing to spend that kinda money I'm sure we can get a better striker than Fletcher. According to bbc MON has bid 12 mil and I hope he wins this particular battle.
Lion Heart
Decent player but for that price, stay clear, debatable if he is worth half of that to be honest.
P.Avfc
8 mill max. He's ok but thats about it. Surely we could get better in Europe.
Pride of Lions
Get real 13 mil for Fletcher no way better ways to spend 13m. Its just B/S apparently the news was broken by Arthur Mullardo !!!! Where is Hilda Baker
JOEJACK1
wooden dollars we give Wolves 13m and Mon gives us 13m for Gabby . Jobs a good un
villan57
i think he's the exact player we need. 13m is alot but wolves paid 7m for him themselves and he is definitely a better player now than he was then
avfcwills10
decent player who can score a few goals but never worth 13mil he is 6mil max hopefuly only MON is mad enough to pay that money, and just in case you don't know for his 12 goals in 32 appearances for wolves last year they had more successful crosses than any other team in the prem so he had more than enough chances to score more so sorry I don't want him at villa, much better out there for 13mil
KerryVillian
Not up to us whether it's too much or not. Aint my money.
jonah
not worth it! he is better than Bent, mind you he is to good for your lot, it would be a backwards step in his career. P.Avfc - moron!
johnwolf
Totally agree P.Avfc. johnwolf DICKHEAD!
benny003
johnwolf P.Avfc aint a moron he's a passionate Villan so less of the silly name calling ay mate, would raher read what you really think of Fletcher as a few lads who i know are Wolves fans and they say they would have ben gutted if Fletcher left Wolves and they said this about a month ago
ClivetheVillan
we can do better than Championship fodder but 8-10 mil max i suppose it could be useful. 16 mil for him and Jarvis and they got a deal!
medzy
Do like him. 1m3 is alot of money if he doesn't hit the target. Agree that we can possibly find similar or better for money in Europe...is Yeboah or Weah still playing? Seriously though, we could do worse than Demba Ba or Odemwingie. Both unsettled and know where the net is....both may have attitude issues though, however if both are played regular then both seem to be well happy....both achievable for 13m?
koolbill
Why not sell Makoun and buy Daniel Sturridge or Matt Jarvis.
Blitz
Why not sell Makoun and buy Daniel Sturridge or Matt Jarvis.
Blitz
Fletcher knows where the goal is - and did so even in our dismal season... Prices are indeed silly these days, so 13 mil is now good value for someone who will score regularly. I dont want to see any of good players go, but it looks like oNeills got this one wrapped up. Good luck for next season and ***** on the albion
AdMant
I like Fletcher but I can't believe that for 13m we couldn't find a better player out there. You only get the money once, once it's spent, it's gone.
coeur_de_lion
koolbill, no chance damba ba would leave newcastle for us! jarvis is soooo over rated. and i cant see daniel sturridge being prepared to sign for a team outside the top 6 whether hes a villa fan or not
avfcwills10
sounds like sunderland have bid for him instead of us...
maigrait
Admant good luck yourselves dude in returning back to the prem, which you may have had a chance of staying in if your board didn't sack Big Mick or chose a decent manager but anyway agree he is a goalscorer but he does look like he's HEADING for Sunderland get it HEADING ;) never mind lol
ClivetheVillan
Would like Demba Ba tho..same initials as DB9 so there's my logical reason for wanting him here :-) Oh and he woill come...because I shall command it.
koolbill
Fletcher is exactly the kind of player we need IMO and 1 in3 in a very poor side isn't bad at all, but if MON has bid 12 then his true value is probably about 8M.
AVbornandbred
One word. Berbatov.
madirish
He's not worth that much money. 8 million at most. Are players signed from relegated teams not usually a bit cheaper to buy?
Lock
13 mil is peanuts for a striker. Carroll wasn't worth 35 and bent wasn't worth 24. Don't think that we've got more than 10 to spend on 1 player anyway.
Villan444
Whether he's worth 13m or not, it's unlikely that we have that kind of cash to spend on a striker. We might make an offer, but if Sunderland agree the 13m fee we'll be out of the running. I like Fletcher, but there's just as good or better in Europe for less.
jsmccue
Johnwolf first of all thanks for calling me a moron, appreciate it! Second I don't think stats prove that Fletcher is better than Bent do you? And yeah I agree, Fletcher leaving from a 'championship' small club to former european champions, consistent premier league team, and a team on the rise is a step down...Yeah makes total sense mate, now go back and rethink who the moron is.
P.Avfc
Guys, keep the personal comments out of here. No idea why the first post wasn't deleted, so apologies for that, I'll give Fieldy a bollocking for approving it! lol
The Fear
Like Fletcher as a player but 13 mill is a hefty tag. Still feel we are lightweight in midfield and should have cleared Makoun,Delph & Bannan and replaced them, yes I am aware each of those players has some support amongst the fans its just IMO they are not what we need ,cant argue we need another striker but thought a better gamble would be Saha or Rhodes given Fletchers asking price.Heyho whatever in Lambert we trust.UTV
Merlin128777
Rhodes pleeeeeeeeeeeease! Saha - no 'too-old-never-fit' journeyman' way!
