Bannan Takes The Positives

Barry Bannan has taken the positives from today's game against Forest and promised the fans the team will work on the mistakes we made for Paul Lambert first loss.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail our goalscorer and Captain on the day saluted the fans for travelling in the numbers they did, and he said the team would work hard in training to make sure we didn't slip up like this again.

'Obviously it was a great pre season up until now, but sometimes you need a game like this to try and learn from it. We've lost, so we'll take the positives, but I'm sure we'll go back to training, work hard and try to cut out the mistakes we made in this game. It's better losing now than in two weeks at West Ham.'

It's the right attitude to have and to be fair it's what the majority of us are saying. The defeat will ground the players again and stop them getting too carried away, and Lambert will have learnt far more from this 90 minutes than he probably has in other games in terms of where we are sleepy in defence and how we react to going behind.

So we beat a load of American tripe (no disrespect intended, but it's true) and lose to the first proper team we play and all's good? Not that friendlies mean anything, the same as training. I remember our training just before we won the league last time and it was shockingly poor. It means nowt, imo.

Forest start their season a week before us so will have more training in their legs, with new manager to impress. Also all goals came after the many substations these games have

badger don't be too negative. Thought Lambert tried to give 11 players (excluding Bent) 90 mins for fitness whilst Forest played about 20 and had fresher legs in the second half. Vlaar looked tired second half and will only benefit from his time on the pitch as will the others by playing alongside him and learning his game. Thought Bannan played well and got a good goal. Still not sure that Ireland gives enough: yes great skill but complete application? Not sure. Zoggy ran into some blind alleys and Warnock..... say no more. Weakest link today in the most part.

Talking of positive news, ive uploaded footage of the 19th minute applause from the game today... Unfortunately, i had to be in the Forest end for the game, but it gave me chance to film all the Villa fans today... Enjoy! UTV http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cs0V8EvEJb0

To put things into context, Chelsea lost 3-1 at Brighton too.
