Vlaar Backs Lambert To Succeed

Vlaar Backs Lambert To Succeed

Ron(crete) Vlaar has said he is convinced that Paul Lambert has all the mental qualities to succeed at Villa, and Lambert also sold the Dutchman on the style of play we will employ.

Speaking to Setanta before Lambert's first unfortunate loss against Notts Forest today, the new centre half said of our new gaffer:

'It's about the way he wants to play football. I don't know what he was like as a player, but throughout my conversations with him I could see the mentality he has. You have to be very strong, which is very important for the team, and I feel he can achieve a great deal. Villa has a strong manager going forward.'

The Forest result will take the shine off pre season so far, but Lambert will have learnt a lot from what went wrong defensively in the final 20 minutes today, and can work on fixing it ahead of the proper season kick off.

And if Ron is true to his word, that's exactly what the players will be discussing now.

Let's hope all the people going on about Lambert being some kind of Messiah will now take a breath after we have been well beat by Forest. I said at the beginning it was a good choice but I felt he would need a lot of time, a lot are already saying top ten finish etc, I don't believe we will be in the top 12 but give him a year and we should start to see a better team, I hope. But please he is no God or miracle worker . I hope he gets time because I can see us in the same position as with McLeish for a while anyhow.

Vlaar looks useful but could do without all this "PL's vision persuaded me to come" guff. Please!!! He's hardly going to say "that Paul Lambert fella is a total waste of space". Coming to Villa had nothing to do with the EPL mega wages, then? Let your feet do the talking 'Concrete Ron'.

Christ some peoples comments are hilarious...andy it's just a friendly, it's told us nothing we didn't already know. Was we meant to win every single game to make Lambert this so called"Messiah"? How stupid. Always going to have the soul suckers around even if we get top 10 this year...Yawn.

Paul you miss my point. I love the guy but it seems a lot of people go on about how great he is already , I was saying I hope people give him time because the 3 times I saw Norwich play it wasn't that great

Oh come on andy, Norwich had a great season! You might have caught them on an off day but league positions do not lie...I think people go on about how great he is etc because they are just really happy to have him, compared to last years joke he is a breathe of fresh air and has put positivity back in the club. This game should not change the opinion of Lambert, win or lose...that's the whole point of a friendly they really do not matter, you will not get the best from players, it's all about fitness, if we are ***** come 5 games into the season then it's time to rethink on Lambert, but still stay faithful and positive because we cannot get on another managers back. Oh and P doesn't stand for Paul mate, just address me simply as P ;)

Soz P. but there you go 5 games isn't enough we need to give him the year without falling into the negative stuff from last year, that my worry.

I actually think we gave McLeish a HUGE amount of time considering how F'kin dire we were. Not a single anti-Mcleish chant was heard from where I sit (K7) until Sunderland and that was only because after "Martin you're a t'w at" it seemed rude not to follow it with "Alex.." you too are said rude word. It wasn't until the next game against Bolton that the true anti McLeish songs started and by then it was clear to every man and his blind dog that he had to go. I know Lambert will be given time. I'm sure of it. Of course it's not gonna be all plain sailing but isn't that half the fun?!? ;)
