Call Me Concrete Ron!
Ron Vlaar has picked his own nickname since arriving at Villa, he wants to be known as 'Concrete Ron'.
So welcome Concrete Ron. (I'm hardly going to argue with the man am I!)
Speaking to the Official Site the 27 year old promised fans that they would see full bloodied performances from him on the pitch, and he's said he's determined to win the fans over and become a Holte End Hero by showing he cares, he's passionate, and a cultured - but traditional - centre half that we can be proud of.
'Yes it's right, my nickname is Concrete Ron! I had some injuries in the past and I trained really hard to come back, I did some muscle training and came back very strong and after that, they gave me that nickname.'
There's no other way to phrase this, so I'll put it the way Paul Brown did.
On being asked if the nickname suggests he's a tough cookie...
'I think so, yes. I'm a player who wants to win every fight and every game. I play with a lot of passion. I just want to win. I hope to bring that over to the other players and the crowd and then we can be very strong.'
Sounds promising doesn't it! Have we found our Dutch Shaun Teale?
I hope so! Mellberg had the beard, I wonder if Ron fancies growing a tash?

Glad he was given the nickname, remember Paul Ince when he said to his Man Utd teammates he wanted to be called the Guvnor?! How can you give yourself a nickname?! LOL

I think he'll prove a top top signing! A real centre half with proper leadership qualities, he was a top captain for a top team! A captain and legend in the future in claret and blue!

I know Alpay turned into a bit of a nutter at the end (I can still see him shushing the Holte after scoring, which upon reflection is hilarious). However I absolutely loved Alpay and how he would go for the tunnel and then turn back and run and kiss his badge in front of the Holte. If concrete Ron is half as much fun I'll love it!

UTV83 i like the tune! so so impressed with this guys attitude so far, with comments like "We have to do it together. The most important thing is to play like a team, and then a lot of things are possible." i really hope this guy can produce big things on the pitch because you want guys like him with that infectious mentality spurring everyone on and always believing we can win
