Following the 3-2 loss to Worcester City in their last game, Gordon Cowans has called for the team to show the right reaction and show they have learnt from the experience.
Speaking to the Official Site Sid said the Worcester performance fell well below what he expects from the lads, and he wants to see them put that right when we face Chester on Saturday.
'I want to see them bounce back with a reaction. I want to see them keep the shape better than they did at Worcester and keep to the system that we are trying to play. It's alright going to Boldmere and winning 6-2 but the difference in standard was miles away. I was disappointed, it was a massive learning curve for them but they need to learn quickly.'
What will please fans most, especially given our success at reserve level, but the first team never playing the same way, is that Cowans is working hand in hand with Paul Lambert to create a philosophy of football from the top to the bottom within the club, so all our youngsters, as they progress can taste first team football playing the same style that they have developed with.
'I've had a chat with the manager and he wants us to try and do that right the way through the club and play the same system, play high up the pitch and press high up the pitch.'
Now that sounds like a plan, and to be fair, it's going to take the first team longer to adapt than the second string and the Academy lads, as that is how they play more naturally anyway. But of course it'll be a great benefit for the next generation knowing they can play their game when they get a first team chance, instead of being a completely different style of play.
