Gabby Agbonlahor Not Going Anywhere

Looks like 25-year-old Gabby Agbonlahor has no intention of leaving Aston Villa despite him being linked to former boss MON at Sunderland.

The Villa striker said in The Sun:

gabby

'Looking at it over the summer I'm just laughing at myself thinking 'where do they get these links from?' I'm an Aston Villa player, it's my home club, I love the club. As long as I'm contracted to the club then I'll continue to play for them - until I get told otherwise."

'When you've played with a manager as good as Martin O'Neill you are going to be linked with him. But, for me, it's just speculation.

'Also when a new manager (Paul Lambert) comes in, people think straight away you won't be involved.'

Our longest serving player also says he has no idea if the rumours are true or not.

So there you have it!

We've been over and over this before, but he is not good enough. WeSTILL need a decent striker to play alongside DB9. As a team we do ot score enough goals.... even these two friends it's only been one.

He doesn't score enough goals ? Granted the last two years he has hardly set the Premiership a light but he has been injured and played out of position, and then when played as a striker last season he never saw the ball past the half way line !! With MON his scoring record was improving by one each season and he was pretty good at creating space for Carew or setting him up, including the last two seasons where he hasn't scored he still averages 1 goal in 4 goals in his entire Premiership stay. That to me still isn't bad but that is including the last two seasons, I have no doubt with the attacking play we are playing now and focusing on actually getting it to the strikers he can acheive around the 15 goal mark, and let's be honest if you have a 20 season goal scorer in Darren Bent you only need Gabby to chip in 10-15 to make it a successful season if the back are keeping it tight. Or does everyone expect Agbonlahor to be a 20 season goal scorer ? Believe it or not but he actually has a better record of getting his shots on target than Darren Bent but Bent has the edge of putting his shots away by 5% and let's be honest Agbonlahor can learn to be more clinical under Bent.

i cant ever see gabby reaching 20 a season not on a regular basis anyway maybe a one off season but not like benty who you know will get you 20 for the season as long as he is fit and supplied gabby misses faaar too many one on one chances 90% i reckon but with regards to his passion, commitment, fight and love for the club can not fault him
black_villian
You can't win a game with 11 finishers. Not everyone can be as selfish as Bent. If Gabby was, then he may get 20 per season and some of his dissenters would stop moaning but then someone else would have to do his job of running channels, holding up, bullying defenders etc.

gabby needs confidence to be good in one on ones. When he's on form and scoring he finishes them no problem. His finishng for other types of chances including headers is actually pretty good. If he plays regularly up front this season I wouldn't be surprised if he gets close to 20

He's still a solid player. He's no Einstein, but few football players are. If Bent is getting 20+ goals, and Gabby can chip in with around 15, I think we'll have a nice attacking pair. He needs confidence and he needs to play as a striker. Totally agree with Villan444 on the channels, holding up the ball and bullying defenders. He has a role to play in a team that's built around quick passing and fast attacks, as well as one that likes to press high up the pitch.

Even under MON a huge share of Villa goals were coming from midfield or elsewehere. (Remember Zat Knight getting on the scoresheat against Arsenal?). Agbonlahor is unlikely to ever develop into a 20 goal a season forward. Thomas Vermaelan has a comparable goal scoring record at Arsenal over the last few seasonsl. Bent is the only does-what-it-says-on-the-tin striker at Villa. Not sure where the other goals will come from? Weimann looks a good prospect. Agbonlahor is a terrific fan but not a serious EPL striker.

Gabbys contribution should not be measured solely in goals. His presence on the pitch causes the opposition to think twice and potentially sit a bit deeper

Awesome! Couldn't be happier : ) A fit, on form Gabby played in the right position is a joy to behold, quite surprised that many seem to be blind to his overall contribution to the team, but such is life, maybe some will admit they were mistaken when he hangs up his boots after becoming one of (if not the) our longest serving and most feared of strikers ever to put on the famous claret and blue, a one team, loyal player is a thing to be treasured in this day and age, more power to him.
steff_the_villan
gabby this, fonz that - nobody seems to be able to type the words - sell nzogbia. He's been woeful in the two US games and he's phoned it in ever since he got to Villa.
malacaxeta
Hey malacaxeta.... I can! Sell N'Zogbia! He just hasn't done it has he?.....

Steff -- Few doubt GA11's loyalty to the Villa. He's C&B through and through, a local boy made good. However, he's not a ruthless, selfish out-and-out striker. CR7 got 42 goals from the wing at Manure, and tons more from the same position at R.Madrid. Van Persie isn't a traditional striker and yet look at his record. Saying GA11 is played out of position isn't a logical reason for his lack of goals. Vermaelan -- a centre back -- has scored more for his club over the last few seasons. OK, the players I've mentioned are world class, but isn't that the type of player the club need to move forward. GA11 could be to Villa what OGS was to Manure. (I.e. a terrific impact sub). He'll never, however, be another Gerd Mueller in terms of goals scored.
VillaWillRiseAgain
CR7 got 42 goals in ONE season. He and Vermaelan were also relative unknowns when they came to Blighty. No reason why Villa can't also find this type of outstanding footballer. Maybe the club already has them in its young players (Delph, Albrighton, Clark, etc).
VillaWillRiseAgain
Bent is knocked for scoring goals as per his 18m remit??? 444 you're having a laugh. Will you eat your hat if GA11 is played in his right position and doesn't plunder goals like Bent?

Our longest serving player also says he has no idea if the rumours are true or not. There you go,Gabby still hasn't a clue.........lol
jasevilla
I have mixed feelings on GA11, on his day he is wonderful, but he has not had a lot of those days in the past couple of seasons. I really hope that Lambo will bring out the best of GA, but I think we will be bringing in a topt class striker to replace him.
jfr7730
Summing up for me Benty is a goal hanger so long as he gets you 20 a season fine because he contributes nothing else to the team as far as I am concerned. Gabby is a confidence player and needs to be fit to give of his best. Weimann not the finished product yet but a good but not great prospect . If you watch Fergie he always has extra options in attack and rotates his forwards according to form. Think we need another striker just to be competitive long term injuries like Bentys last season and Gabbys the season before kill us.
