Ron Vlaar Move Off?

Ron Vlaar has commented that his chance to move to Villa Park is not as likely as he first thought, as Feyenoord's press machine continue to try and force our hand.

Speaking to Sky Sports with all the talk of Monday deadlines and the like coming from Holland, Vlaar himself is quoted as saying:

'Feyenoord is in my heart and I have been through a lot here. I think the chance I will move to Aston Villa is not so big anymore. I don't want to be kept on a leash, so transfer is off for now.'

Given Feyenoord wish to imply that we haven't opened negotiations yet a transfer has never really been on technically, but Koeman's threat to not involve him in friendlies obviously will worry the player, but quite why this is being dragged out in the press and hyped is beyond me.

Are Feyenoord incapable of continuing to operate without opening their mouths, until we actually make an offer which presumably would be at his release fee level?

Seems a bit silly. When he was being shown around VP, surely someone must of told him "Look Ron, we're off to the US tomorrow for 3 friendlies, so nothing will happen unti we get back in about 10 days ok?" Or is that too simple?

Vlaar's comments about wanting to come here were pleasing but foolish really. Feyenoord's comments are irritating and unnecessary too. But to be fair, I remember how irritated we were when the talk suurounding our captain Barry was going on and on and we all said we just wanted a decision and get it over with so we could move on - and that was before City actually made an offer too. He's there captain and a talisman for them. I don't think we've done any wrong, but I see their point of view

Well after listening to what PL said RE: Vlaar, don't reckon that the "chat" that they had was as positive as the Feyenoord captain thought!!!!

I said all along Vlaar would use this as a way of getting a better contract and until he's in the shirt and on the pitch - that's what I'll believe...unless we can get Karim to tell him to chill out and hold on a few days.

Perhaps there were dealings going on in the background and PL expected Hutton to be sold to someone (thus leaving him out of the US squad), and PL was to use these funds for Vlaar?

We HAVE the funds. We don't need to sell. Truthis, Lerner and his employees would have studied all the perfromance stats last season and found that many of the high earners were vastly overpaid whereas many of the best performers were on the lowest - simple maths - get shot of the 5hit and recruit players hungry, with increasing performance / very good performance stats to do a proper job. This Vlaar saga has some legs to keep running and I wouldn't be surprised to hear a retraction along the lines of a misquote and so on - either way, Lambert will have more than one target up his sleeve and we shouldn't be too worried. Perhaps a poll of current Norwich players we'd like in our squad is needed?

I think you've missed a very important quote Mike, where Koeman spoke about the way clubs deal with each other and even manners. We've handled this very poorly, imo.

We've dealt perfectly fairly badger, wasn't us shooting our mouths off about the deal in the press was it? Koeman has confirmed we haven't placed a bid, so what is there to discuss? We showed manners, we sought permission to meet him and show him around so Lambert could judge him. Again, it's been Feyenoord who have shouting their mouths about the 'impending deal'. Vlaar has only spoken out because Koeman has shot his load and said he won't play in pre season unless he's sure he's staying.

I agree Mike, we haven't done a thing wrong, it's good it shows PL and Randy won't be pushed around and will do things on our terms not other people's. Vlaar said off for NOW as well so I wouldn't be suprised to see the deal still go through. I'm relaxed about it all, PL will do what's right.

You've missed the point totally Mick. Which is you either go for the player or you don't. Either way you inform the club, the agent or even the player himself. Apparently we haven't done any of those things and to me that's just downright ignorant and disrespectful. I hope I never have to do any business with you if you don't think a "yes please" or a "no thanks" matters. And what are we doing showing people around the club, if we haven't done the deal, anyway? It's the second time we've been caught out like this (OGS) and it comes across as very amateur to me, at least.

Seems to me Feyenoord are more eager to sell than we are to buy, I'll trust Lambo's decision either way.

Does no one else think we are just being sensible. Cash is king so whats the point of doing the deal while we are in America and the player cant join up. Even if he earns 30k a week we have saved 60k already. Surely thats common sense? I expect deals to start happening again only once the team and manager are home from stateside

badger mate chill out a bit, and realise its Feyenoord who have been running there mouths of because Koeman wants transfer funds he has already said the money of the Vlaar sale he needs to add more players to his squad thats why they have been trying to hurry up a move to sell Vlaar, that is not out problem they need tranfer funds is it? Also if it was not fo the media like twitter papers etc we would not know Vlaar was shown around VP so is it Lambert's or Randy;s oreven Paul Faulkner's fault we live in a world where if your fart people will know about it? Maybe just maybe as said above Lambert was not impressed with the meeting he had with Vlaar? is that so bad? Also if Lambert does want to ell Collins etc before we add that maybe a big factor aswell who really knows? Lets lay of this negative maning about things we really do not understand about before we start speculating or moaning as some are doing ay ;)

badger0-0. I think your'e very naive, showing people around the club is a sort of a job interview it happens all the time, at every club. The player needs to see what he's getting into and some times the management want a one to one to access the chap in person. It would amateur to just sign someone having never spoken to them face to face, could it be you think this works like a computer game? I.e. like him sign, him, done.

Also agree with the same two posts. Football exists in the human world. Too many people seem to think it's like a video game. No serious employer would take on a new member of staff without meeting them No potential employee would up sticks and move to a new country without finding out a bit about where they could be going. Footie is no different and they are millions of pounds at stake here, too.

No you don't Badger. You sound out the player, you make a judgement on whether they will harmonise with the team and Lambert clearly wanted to see whether Vlaar was eying the money of the Premiership or the challenge. Do you really think a deal is signed without the player meeting folks first? Lambert then dismissed Feyenoord's comments that a deal was near as said we were someway off. If you really believe you go for a player or you don't, then in this case we haven't for whatever reason. Just cause Feyenoord shot their mouths off doesn't make us wrong. They fuelled the signed in 48 hours stuff, *****ed off their own fans, and now look thoroughly unprofessional whilst we have done everything by the book. If we want him we'll make an approach, we obviously haven't made an approach and Feyenoord are trying to blame us so they don't look like dicks, and Vlaar is speaking up to protect his future because Koeman has said he won't play him if his future at the club isn't guaranteed. Absolutely nothing to have a pop at the club about here, again Vlaar and Feyenoord should have shut up, we've been caught out at nothing and we've done everything right. We are considering making a move, so how the hell can we say yes or no whilst we consider and weigh up options? The world isn't as black and white as you think. You aren't ordering a pallet of baked beans after receiving a quote when dealing with football are you.

It's also worth pointing out that when Villa signed Delph from Leeds, that club praised the manner in which AVFC conducted itself.
