A few of the press have updated in reference to the Ron Vlaar potential move... Ron Vlaar Update... Deal Not Imminent

Paul Lambert has called Ron Vlaar a top bloke, but he's not sure if a deal will be done following their meeting. As per the earlier coverage, this is what Paul Lambert told the Birmingham Mail about the possibility of Ron Vlaar joining us and joining the lads in the States: Lambert Unsure On Vlaar

Villa began their pre-season tour of the United States with a deserved 1-0 success over Philadelphia Union on Wednesday night. The PPL Park clash is available to watch in its entirety now on AVTV. Full article: www.avfc.co.uk

Paul Brown in Philadelphia: Richard Dunne believes Paul Lambert is the man to reinvigorate Villa by building up the belief and confidence of his players. Dunne returned to the claret and blue fold on Monday as Villa jetted out to USA for the tour of Philadelphia, Chicago and Portland. Article: www.avfc.co.uk

Fieldy: Paul Lambert has said Alan Hutton understands his omission from the Stateside squad after playing at Burton. Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Lambert said: 'This is just the squad I've decided to go with. I spoke to Alan the other week and he played fine on Saturday, so no worries whatsoever. To be fair he was ok with that, he worked hard in the game so there's no adverse feeling there.' Doesn't take a genius to think that Hutton won't be with us for much longer does it.

It was inevitable that Alex McLeish would eventually re-tell his story of his time at Villa Park, but I never quite expected him to claim we remained competitive! Although I did guess it would be the fans fault. Speaking to The Mirror four Ex intimates that the majority of Villa fans were against him from the start and that was why the club struggled as he tried to cut wages. 'There were a few difficulties, but I don't think the Villa fans totally accepted me being in the job.' Full quotes and interesting article comments: Open Your Ecking Eyes!

Well, ever dedicated, I went to bed last night instead of staying up and reporting on the pre-season friendly v Philadelphia Union! Yes, I know, my work for this site is tireless but I`m not and those who have met me know I need as much beauty sleep as I can get. I have to admit, pre-season friendlies interest me very little, as Paul Lambert said recently, it is all about the fitness, not the results. Anyway, Villa won 1-0 against the Union with a goal from Nathan Delfouneso. Wouldn`t it be great if he can progress this season?! Full report: Delfouneso Secures 1-0 Win In USA Pre-Season
