Young Reserves Side Off To A Flyer

A young Villa reserves team started their pre-season in style with a 6-2 win over Boldmere St Michaels...which was nice!

VILLA: Barrett, Barton, Devine, Donacien, Cameron, Grealish, Ward, Melvin, Johnson, Burke, Drennan. Subs: Hill, Kinsella, Lewis, Watkins, Williams, Nelson.

No surprise really when you see that the legend that is Sid Cowans is the coach.

He said on www.avfc.co.uk after the game:

'We're very pleased with the lads. You can't fault the quality, their attitude and their application. We had a go at a new system that we haven't had long working on over the past couple of days. If you saw the Burton Albion game the other day, it mirrors what the first team do, pressing high up the pitch."

Pressing play? Attacking football? In fact, FOOTBALL FULL STOP.

What is going on at Villa these days, this will never do!

He also pointed out Michael Drennan for special praise for his hat-trick.

Great stuff.

Reserves playing the same attacking style as the first team? That's fantastic news. The players coming through will be used to playing a certain system. From top to bottom at all levels the Barca team play the same style and with the same philosophy. Makes sense to me. Well done Sid.

The reserves have always been like that mate, it's the first team that has trouble lol

With Lambert now in charge and with his own staff now in situ (exept Sid of course) I can see the beginning of a new era of football at Villa, from top to bottom. It's all systems go!

Top stuff lads. Anyone know why the following didn't feature; Webb, Serrano, Graham, Williams? All of them have looked the part in the past from what I've heard.
