Lambert Unsure On Vlaar

Lambert Unsure On Vlaar

Paul Lambert has called Ron Vlaar a top bloke, but he's not sure if a deal will be done following their meeting.

As per the earlier coverage, this is what Paul Lambert told the Birmingham Mail about the possibility of Ron Vlaar joining us and joining the lads in the States:

'Ron came over and we had a chat with him, that's basically where it's been left, there's nothing imminent at all. He's a top bloke and a very good player. We'll see what happens.'

Vlaar has already said he would welcome the move if the opportunity arose, so it's just a case of wait and see, but I think everybody would be surprised if we made any more moves in the market before we returned to England.

One does not simply fly a player over from another country to "have a chat" . . .

You wouldn't have thought, especially with how positive about the move Vlaar is. Still can't see him joining before we return though.

Reading between the lines it's possible Lambert saw something in Vlaar's personality he didn't like or warm to. Feyernoord is a big club -- in the Champions League -- but Villa is an EPL club. I.e a relatively rich club. Certainly by Dutch standards. A lot of foreign -- and domestic -- players seem to think the EPL is a get-rich-quick scheme. They're not wrong. Under the new Sky broadcasting rights deal the club finishing BOTTOM will earn more than Citeh did last season for WINNING the league. Maybe, Vlaar is a dedicated pro who wants to further his career at the Villa? Maybe he'll sign after the US tour is over. If he doesn't though, that's still 8 Mill to spend on another decent player, instead.

Yeah quite odd, and it certainly brings the OGS sage to mind like mike said! RL's private jet must get itchy feet, or wheels.

Though Vlaar might've sorted his own flights out actually!

I think it's still a goer and Lambert is keeping Q as to not drive the price up but, maybe, just maybe, Vlaar is using us to secure a better deal with Feyenoord?

At the end of the day until an agreement is reached PL is still talking about a player who is contracted to another club. Obviously no agreement has been reached between the clubs yet.

We all knew there would be no signings while we're in the US, so lets wait until they get back and see what happens..........
