USA squad, Guzan in, Hutton out: Click Here

Well, we figured from USA Tour Squad, however, there is now official confirmation, Brad Guzan has signed a new three year deal at Villa. Quotes from Lambert: Official Confirmation, Brad Guzan Re-signs

23 year old Matthew Lowton has said training with the lads for the first time and seeing the facilities were quite surreal, but he knows he can't be overawed when he's on the pitch. Speaking to the Official Site he discussed his time in Hungary where he had to fend for himself as a 17 year old, and he believes it's set him up perfectly to make the jump into the Premiership - he just needs to remember he's there on merit and he shouldn't be starstruck at the names he'll come up against. skysports.com say that Villa are after Feyenoord captain Ron Vlaar to Villa Park. The 27-year-old central defender was apparently had talks with Villa on Sunday (maybe that is who the picture circulating with Lambert showing someone around Villa Park was then). Article: Ooh Ahh Ron Vlaar?! + Andy Carroll Update

Feyenoord's sporting director has said that Ron Vlaar's buy out price is certainly not the cheap option for Aston Villa, but we are apparently prepared to meet it. After the twitpics yesterday leaving most fans debating whether the man in the photo was Ivan Ramis, it has turned out it's another left field pick by the new manager in 27 year old Dutch centre halve Ron Vlaar, who has already said he is more than considering joining us. Full article: Vlaar NOT The Cheap Option For Lambert?

This is a funny one because it seems to return every year. Yup, the obligatory Michael Owen link. I forget who said, I think it was in an article comment or forum post (sorry, my memory isn`t up to much!) but they reckon Owen had a visit to Villa last week. Could be total pie in the sky. However, the 32-year-old is available on a free and has been talking things up recently. He has tweeted saying he would only move to another Premiership Club and dropping down the divisions isn`t of interest to him. Article: The Obligatory Annual Michael Owen To Villa Link!

Paul Lambert heaped praise on Darren Bent volunteering to be Captain against Burton, but has said Benty will have to continue to justify the honour of wearing the armband. Speaking to the Official Site Lambert described Bent as one of the best finishers in the league, but it's by no means certain that Bent will continue with the armband as Lambert will make a final decision closer to the league start. Full article: Lambert On Captain Bent

Forum thread specifically on Bent for Captain: Click Here

By Dan Harrison: Paul Lambert is adamant he will not let standards drop in pre-season training as his claret and blue troops aim to hit the ground running this term. Lambert and his coaches are set to put the squad through their paces at PPL Park in today ahead of Wednesday night's clash against MLS side Philadelphia Union. Full article: www.avfc.co.uk

Barry Bannan has said he believes he can only benefit from working with both Gordon Cowans and now Paul Lambert, given the careers they had in midfield. Speaking to the Official Site Bannan said the influence they could have on him together could only ever be a benefit: Bannan Looking For Help

Today I read that somebody -- a writer -- called David Wangerin had died. He had written a book on US football called 'Soccer in a Football World'. He had also contributed to WSC (When Saturday Comes) magazine and had started one of the first serious English fanzines on German football. The reason I am mentioning him --I didn't know him personally -- is that he followed Aston Villa Football Club.
