Bannan Looking For Help

Barry Bannan has said he believes he can only benefit from working with both Gordon Cowans and now Paul Lambert, given the careers they had in midfield.

Speaking to the Official Site Bannan said the influence they could have on him together could only ever be a benefit:

'There's the gaffer and Sid Cowans who have won the European Cup so for a midfielder like me I'm only going to learn from these people.'

I certainly hope he does, there's plenty Bannan can tweak and improve on, and he remains a marmite player for most fans, you either seem to love or hate him for what he tries to do on the pitch, but if he can improve size really won't be an issue because he's never been afraid to get in a tussle and come out as the winner despite his diminutive size.

Bannan also talked briefly about the good feeling around the club since Lambert joined, and he says the team are determined to carry that through the whole season:

'It was doom and gloom last season, but even now, and we've not kicked a ball competitively yet, there's a big lift already. He definitely sounds like he's in a hurry to sort out the club with the way he has been talking, so it's up to us players and show him what we're all about.'

Be great if he was now fully focussed, if anyone can make a midfielder of him, Sid can. Hopefully he can convince Bannan that not every pass has to be a 'Hollywood' pass to start with. Would be superb if they call come out fighting this season.
The Fear
Wish Bannan would keep his trap shut and just concentrate on turning himself into a proper footballer. I may be miles wide of the mark but from what i've seen on T.V etc he seems to have an attitude problem. Add Ireland, Zog, Dunne, Collins and Warnock into the bad attitude mix and you can see why we've failed the past 2 seasons.
Dont rate him at all, dont like his attitude either. Hopefully he is sold a.s.a.p.
We're Not Fickle
Hope not son of cher... I'd love all of them to prove themselves, (as most of us would I am sure) and don't think we can judge any of them on last season? He's not really started yet We're Not Fickle? I have my doubts about him but would like to see them proved wrong for sure. He has to sort himself off as well as on the field as do a few others.
The Fear
biggest thing bannan can learn is that he's in a privilleged position and he needs to behave like a pro not a prat.
I don't love Bannan, but I certainly don't hate hm. I've said a number of times, I feel his physical stature holds him back. I don't think he has the clout to really make it in the Premiership. He lacks consistency for me. The odd good game is not enough and I feel due to his size, he is too easiy knocked off the ball.

We're Not Fickle, was you the guy with the website Why did you close your twitter?
Won't make it in the Prem, regardless of attitude, unfortunately for him. Hugely over-optimistic when it comes to passing. Bent taps in from 6 yards, Bannan long passes. Hopefully the new crop will have more than 1 talent each.
Fear is right - he seems a Marmite love him or hate him player. But for those in the critical camp, surely it is clean sheet time. Let's wipe the slate clean, and see how he goes under a new regime. Give all the youth a chance, before firing any more of previous conclusions under McCleish. The points made by 444 have been made endlessly, and the new broom deserves time to sweep!
When I saw the headline I thought he might have just been needing something off a top shelf or something.
Sheriff Kimbo
Size isn't necessarily everything, it's what you have to compliment it (at least that's what I tell my missus...joke!). And in my opinion, Bannan isn't good enough with the ball to make it as a top class player, like Iniesta, Scholes and the like are. Though, I'm still willing to give him a chance to improve because he's still young-ish.
If them are the kind of faces he pulls then maybe he does need help from the top shelf eh Sheriff??? lol
Last chance saloon for the "wee one" in my opinion. Focus on bettering yourself and being more professional and you have half a chance otherwise the Chumpionship beckons (if you're lucky)
Woefully misused by McCleish, but promising prior to that. An important season for him, but may fit in very well to lambert's preferred style - could end up as our equivalent of swansea's joe allen (who is an inch shorter than bannan!).
To be fair to the lad he was played on the wing last season, he is way better in the center of the park...
YYYYYyyyyaaawwwwnnnn, Bent only scores from 6 yards, yawn...V444 you're better than using every article to criticise our best games per goals score for, well, ages. Goals win games, end of. Back to Bannan: size doesn't matter in my opinion but then I have been spoilt by watching Iniesta and Xavi and Fabregas and Messi and Scholes and countless other past players like Bremner, Greaves, Strachan all biss games! Size matters? Drivel. Talent speaks louder and Bannan hasn't got what this GREAT club needs and none of the other drunken tools either.
He still is my fav Villa player atm and hope he can lift his game! Hopefully he keeps his mind on the job and prosper!
Gerd Muller, Lineker, Romario, Greaves all were six yard box specialists. It's a skill and most, not all, but most clubs would die for one in their ranks. We have it 444 and you knock it? How about we sell Bent, get some creativity and then have no one to bag the supposedely simple chances??? I think you are seriously misguided on that issue. On Bannan he think will be undone by his size, although I think PL can focus his attitude. He does have a good football brain, but his size . . . . . . .
LOL, I should stop bitching about Bent. BUT my point is that I want someone who can do what he does ASWELL as other things.
It really is that simple. When training, you practice your finishing and other things also. NOT just finishing.
444 finishing isn't about shooting and practising finishing it is about an understanding of the penalty box. Bent is a master. Get behind the defence and put the ball in the box and by an uncanny ability Bent will stick it in the net. You could train most players on that all day every day and they would never learn what Bent does naturally. Watch with wonder at a master at work and get behind him. We haven't had someone with his ability in years and we may have to wait years again.
444, this is a results game, bent scored 9 league goals in half a season with little/ no supply. the rest of the team managed 28 league goals between them. of the games that bent scored in we won 5 drew 2 and lost 1. i ask where you think we would be without him? i think that shows his goal scoring calibre but you still seem intent that he needs to be sold. if you sell a player it is for 3 reasons, contractual, the transfer fee is too good to turn down or the player is too poor for the team, what option would you choose to justify getting rid?
