Feyenoord sporting director Martin van Geel has confirmed talks as reported yesterday: Vlaar NOT The Cheap Option For Lambert?
Sky Sports have quotes from the Holland international defender.
He told De Telegraaf, a regular read in Fear Towers,
'I cannot say too much."
I should leave the quotes as that really shouldn`t I!?!
He continued, before being so rudely interrupted:
'On Sunday I was in Birmingham and I spoke with coach Paul Lambert and I got a very positive impression. Aston Villa just want me. I have talked to our technical director Martin van Geel and I told him I liked the idea of moving to them."
Adding that a move to Villa would 'be a dream come true`.
lol, he also says his trip to Villa was meant to be a secret. Makes you wonder why he was showed around whilst a tour was taking place then!? Wasn`t it a young Villa fan who took the snap and then it took on a life of its own on the twitter and facebook pages?!
And also in The Mirror, there is a report saying that Jean Makoun might be sold because he has not learned to speak English.
The report goes on to say Lambert plans to offload three or four players to free up funds to bring in Feyenoord defender Ron Vlaar and Leeds midfielder Robert Snodgrass.

Hope so, they have bid for him at least. From what people have said about him, not convinced he's tip top and for us really?
The Fear
If and when Vlaar comes in, Collins can go, as he's allegedly wanted by MON at Sunderland. If Makoun can't get his visa, then we'd have to sell and Snodgrass could be the answer. I ake that 2 in 2 out. Also remember we let Heskey and Cuellar go in the summer. Now Lowton has perhaps replaced Cuellar, but we have no-one to replace our ex star "striker", Heskey yet.

Makoun being sold because he has not learned English? Jeez, the bloke was only here 4 months before he was shipped out to Greece! I lived in China for the last 5 months, and haven't learned Mandarin, I obviously don't deserve a chance to go back and work then!

If one or two under-performers from last year leave, then I am happy to trust Lambert's instinct...especially for Vlaar!

I know Makoun only got a few games, but from what I saw, he was average at best so not really worried about that so much.

I have to say Snodgrass may have a funny sounding name and may well not be a world beater but lets be realistic for a second here, we do not have a load of cash to spend and we need players as Lambert has said who wants to be here to play for Villa not the amount of salary they pick up, plus is this the same snodgrass who played great against Man Utd when Leeds beat them 1-0 in the FA Cup he hit a free kick from about 30 yards out and clipped the upright and he never gave the ball away as i recall and against Arsenal i watched he played good again so lets be fair if Lambert see's potential or a player he thinks can add something to our squad i trust the bloke 110%, Vlaar i am also happy with really impressed by Lambert's unresricted buying of players policy

Makoun played that fast one touch game. he never put his foot on the ball. its odd, but it just didnt seem to work with our team. maybe better suited to the european game where there is more space to pass? You cant really doubt him as a player - just a bad fit. must be depressing to join a team abroad and to be so unwelcome so quickly.

How do you pronounce Vlaar? When we have a rendition of Villa, Villa, Villa ringing arounf VP is he likely to think we are singing for him?

will be disappointed to see makoun go, i still think he has a lot to offer our young(ish) midfield. at the end of the day, we moaned that he who cant be mentioned got rid of someone who can pass the ball, but then if he is sold under sir paul of lambert we trust his judgement. not having a go but this is typical of villa fans. i for one would like to know what the hold up is with the visa at the end of the day there are plenty of people i know of in this country who cant speak english and have no job. . . . but lets not go there.

the thing im worried about the most is that our squad is going to be abit small this has been a problem for a while now at the mighty villa good team weak squad maybe we really need to push a youngsters more and just throw them in sick or swim it worked for fergie didnt it mr hansen lol
