Vlaar NOT The Cheap Option For Lambert?

Feyenoord's sporting director has said that Ron Vlaar's buy out price is certainly not the cheap option for Aston Villa, but we are apparently prepared to meet it.

After the twitpics yesterday leaving most fans debating whether the man in the photo was Ivan Ramis, it has turned out it's another left field pick by the new manager in 27 year old Dutch centre halve Ron Vlaar, who has already said he is more than considering joining us.

Now Feyenoord's sporting director, Martin Van Geel, has confirmed everything and said Ron wants the move.

'Ron visited Birmingham yesterday and wants to continue his career at Aston Villa. It's true that he has a buy out clause. I won't reveal how much but we're obviously talking millions here.'

Feyenoord have apparently taken two official teamshots this season, one featuring Vlaar and the other not, so they are definitely expecting his departure. With the buy out clause rumoured to be in the region of £3m he could well turn out to be a complete steal for Lambert going off how highly rated he was by Feyenoord fans, and as many have commented on the forum, you generally don't tend to give players and their agent a tour of the facilities unless a deal is nigh on done.

I am getting more and more quitley optimistic as this pre-season progresses, i also think Randy has told Lambert there is money available and not all the amount is released in the media so other clubs do not ask too much like they used too as soon as Randy took over imo GOOD TIMES UTV!!!

I read that the fee is likely to be about 8m. No idea if this is good business or not. Excitin' though, innit?

CT I would be surprised if it is anywhere near 8m to be honest as its a "buy out clause"..... If the reported 3m (as above) is near the markt hen fair enough..... 8m on the performances I saw him put in for The Netherlands in the Euros then I think its over the odds

Lol, spot on BOF. It's not euros, as 8m euros is about 6.25m quid..... whatever, it may come out in the wash....... then again it may not...(undisclosed)

cant say i know much about this guy but a defender who can score goals is worth an extra 6-10 points a season and something we have needed since Laursen quit. makes a huge difference to the league table over the full season

I was watching an interview of Martin O'Neill when he was our manager. He mentioned how difficult it is to bring in players during the transfer window. Seems like Lambert is showing him how its done. I pity Sunderland. Thye have a manager who will pay over the odds for average players and put them on massive wages. UTV

I woudln't worry too much about the Euros to be honest. van persie had a rubbish euros and Sneider wasn't great either woudl we turn down either of those. Plus players that have one great tournamnet like that tend to do badly in the PL - so maybe its a better thing he didn't - none of the dutch team really shoen to eb honest but that doesn't mean they are all rubbish. bring him in - Lamberts lions our new Number 4 i reckon

If you base your opinions on the performance of a couple of games in the euros i would suggest that the majority of the England team would come in under the 10M mark Rooney included. Perhaps take note of the fact that Vlaar is captain of Feyenoord, a team that qualified for the Champions League in the Dutch top league
