Lambert On Captain Bent

Sounds like a character from Tin Tin doesn't it. Paul Lambert heaped praise on Darren Bent volunteering to be Captain against Burton, but has said Benty will have to continue to justify the honour of wearing the armband.

Speaking to the Official Site Lambert described Bent as one of the best finishers in the league, but it's by no means certain that Bent will continue with the armband as Lambert will make a final decision closer to the league start.

'I gave the armband to Darren on Saturday and he's a top player, one of the best finishers in the league. He's got it at the moment, but he's still got to justify me giving him it. I picked who I thought was right for the Captaincy.'

It certainly came as a shock to many, not only that the most unlikely of candidates in Bent got it, but that Paul had moved so quickly to take it away from Gabby, which in reality an awful lot of fans would agree with following last season.

Lambert's certainly showing that he doesn't mind upsetting the apple cart as he moulds the team in his image and judging by our current poll, the majority don't seem to mind Darren Bent leading us out, although, again, a Captain in the striker role is always a strange choice as you generally feel it should always be a centre mid or halve so they can really get involved.

The Fear
Looking at the team selections from Saturday, who else was there - realistically? He did a decent job.

Hutton, Zog and Bent were the only starters who played regular last year.... It will definitely NOT be Bent in Stan's absence. Suprised he could even work out the tossing of the coin!!!
Villan444
bent is not an idiot villian444 he is smart enough to get into positions where the ball always seems to find him in the box ! and how did Zog play does he look happier? i hope Lambert can get the best out of him it would be like having a new signing :)
black_villian
Yeah, loitering around the 6 yard box all day requires a masters in Asto-Physics black_villian. He just doesn't bother with anything else like passing, holding up, dribbling, shooting fom distance etc. because it's below him.
Villan444
Maybe as captain it'll force him to get involved a little more, when things aren't really going our way he has the tendency to disappear or hang around waiting for something to come to him. It'd be good to see him a bit more vocal and involved.
