Ooh Ahh Ron Vlaar?! + Andy Carroll Update

skysports.com say that Villa are after Feyenoord captain Ron Vlaar to Villa Park.

The 27-year-old central defender was apparently had talks with Villa on Sunday (maybe that is who the picture circulating with Lambert showing someone around Villa Park was then).

He is quoted in AD Sportwereld, a regular read at Fear Towers, 'Of course I will think about it, you have to for it to get this far, but it would be a difficult choice,' .

Mat Kendrick just tweeted "Not seen Ron Vlaar at Bodymoor boarding the coach* but he is a player Villa are 'monitoring'."

*For the US trip.

Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Vlaar

Ron Vlaar has 2 years left on his current deal.

In other gossip, Liverpool have rejected Newcastle United`s loan offer for Andy Carroll and will only look at permanent offers.

The Daily Mail say there are a few options for central defense claiming that Lambert is also interested in Danny Simpson from Newcastle, with Reading also chasing.

The same report also says that Nottingham Forest's Chris Gunter is also an option. He's also been linked before. Forest full back Chris Gunter: Villa Lining Up Forest Full Back?

Another Dutch player after the Dutch-Moroccan El Amadi would be an interesting development. PL is seemingly showing a sophistication in the transfer market that MON and You Know Who completely lacked. Houllier was quite good in this area too (despite being average at nearly everything else). Makoun II was an interesting signing. Some more Dutch influence at VP is potentially terrific -- El Amadi has started well -- and is a relief from some of the British and Irish scufflers and hoofers we've seen arrive in recent years.

Feyernoord are a top club in a top league. They qualified for the CL with Vlaar who has been capped by the Netherlands. That signals useful player.

Thanks for the link Fithcolumn. We're trying to build a team based almost entirely on Euro 2012 failures. We've already got a goalie and CB, good to have almost an entire defensive line. Look out for a link to the Polish midfield any day now...

Feyenoord's DOF has just announced that Vlaar wants to join Villa. I guess it's down to negotiating a fee then, if it hasn't been sorted already. As for Euro 2012, we always warned against judging players when they have a good tournament, so surely the same applies to those that have crap ones?

Vlaar would be a good signing and with him alongside Clark we'd have the ability to play it out from the back. Carroll could be interesting but apparently Berbatov can go for between 5M (the figure Fergie told him) and 10M (the figure Fergi is telling clubs) and whilst either would add a whole new dimension to our front line the latter would offer much more in terms of link up play

He started at CB for Holland, which already puts him higher than all of our current CBs. It seems like the entire dutch team had a nightmare, including Sneijder and RVP- would you turn those two down teale? I think he would be an excellent partner for Clark who could learn a lot from him. I'd also take half the Polish midfield.

Hutton and Albrighton are the most noable absentees for the US trip. Albrighton is not a surprise due to his injury. Unless Hutton injured himself on Saturday does this mean he has been shown the big door marked 'exit'.?

black-villa, perhaps my tongue in cheek irony missed the spot there. And zig, I'd take Schneider and the Polish midfield, but not RVP - a one season wonder (I hope). Berbatov or Carroll? very different players and a nice choice to have to make, but I think we're moving away from those sort of wages. Pity though.

I wouldn't trust Hutton on a bike. he'd fall off, and probably give away a penalty in the process.

Gunter heading to Reading by all accounts, maybe that means Simpson is heading our way. Is this dutch lad any use? Can't be any worse than what's there. I don't think Carroll will end up here.

fifthcolumnblue I saw that earlier and it reminded me of why I never go on to joe. That article you posted sums up why I get into so many arguments with "football fans" over here. If this turns out to be true I would be pretty happy. I dont know much about him having only seen one or two games from the Eredivisie last year and what he did at the euros but I put my faith in Lambert, looking at the signings he made at Norwich. Plus I cannot think of too many dutch based players that came to england and floped (except of Alves of course). UTV! In Lambert I Trust!

Don't rate Carroll too highly. If we do go for him, it will be for a massive price and he will be on massive wages. We should be going for a striker who can work off Bent. A cheaper, relatively unknown player. As for Vlaar, seems like a good prospect. Can't rate someone based soley from the Euros (ie. Given, Sneijder, Robben, etc.).
