Weimann Expects New Striker To Arrive

Andreas Weimann has said he expects Paul Lambert's overhaul of the first team to include the arrival of a new striker to aide competition upfront - especially if you believe the rumours that the Matthew Lowton deal will also include Delboy going on loan for a period.

Speaking to the Birmingham Mail Andi said that he would welcome a new body to challenge for a starting place after the departure of Emile Heskey, but he wouldn't be worried as he knows he has to focus on his own game and push on from his proper breakthrough last season.

'There's myself, Gabby, Darren, and Nathan now that Emile has gone. I think for myself it doesn't really matter if a new boy comes in because I've still got to be at my best to show the gaffer what I can do. If I impress I'll play, if I don't I won't.'

Perfect attitude from the young man, and I doubt I'm alone in expecting big things from him this season. As he says himself in the interview he 'got the taste' last term and he's determined to play a bigger part in the first team this time round, and from what we've seen he's certainly more than capable of stepping up and becoming a key player for us in the future. The Fulham equiliser shows he has a striker's brain and natural instinct to fish for chances, and the Stokie goal was just sublime.

Weimann says he's not setting himself any targets, but I'd imagine he'd be hoping for at least 10-15 starts over the course of this season and anything in the realms of 5+ goals would have to be considered success and growth from last season.

Delboy... is that Delph of Fonz? Didn't realise that was the rumour?

Be interesting if they go for another striker, Bent is a shoe in to start whenever fit, so Gabby? Wing? Departing? He'll not want to be on the bench...

Weimann isn't good enough, he isn't a kid anymore and has the worst first touch you'll ever see (yes worse than Gabby and Fonz put together) ...... He hasn't improved whatsoever over the last few seasons so can't see him getting any better now, so them out and two strikers in would be better.

astonmilan, Weeman has some great potential, he still needs to improve a lot but he is a great asset to have at the Villa and he is young and hungry for 1st team starts, it can only bee all good.

Nah Fear, you gotit wrong mate, Del Boy is off only fools n horses ;) the Weeman and Gabby i would prefer to keep as Lambert will get players back trying hard again, but if Gabby decides he wants o move on i would undertand totally, hope he stays though, as for a striker how about Cardozo from Benfica or Saha who is a free agent?

Green, sorry mate but he is poor, have watched him in reserves for a while now and he hasn't improved. You can coach a midfielder/defender/winger ... but out and out forwards either have it or they don't. He would be about as prolific as Gabby at best.

astonmilan have to disagree with you mate regarding his frst touch. He has good control and showed last season that he is happy getting the ball in tight spaces even at the top level. As far as goalsare concerned I'd agree he wont be prlific but as I've said before on here he reminds of Tommy Johnson. Good team player, bundles of energy and movement that ceates spaces for others whilst getting a decent amount of goals himelf including some important ones.

Just what did he show last season ??? I must have been watching a different player to you over the last few years ..... a one off goal that every player will get in his career at any level and a fluke against Fullham don't add up to much I'm afraid. And his first touch is abysmal !!

It's so obvious we need more strikers in. We need competition and there isn't any. Heskey has gone, Gabby and Fonz are a waste of space.

Another fan making up excuses for gabby,he will find his feet next year you say Clive!yes it would be good to keep him as a super sub with 20mins to go ! Do you think spurs or arsenal would keep a player "who runs his heart out for the club"on the wage he gets paid for as long as we have? No Clive he would be gone! He is like an old piece of furniture that needs to move to a new house as our house is being revamped Clive! Let's give some one else a go,like other areas in our squad it's failed for too long !

he might have seemed pants in the reserves because he was coming back from injury... as soon as he took his chance in the first team and thats all that counts.

Don't get where the Gabby hype comes from with some people...What else apart from speed does he have in his locker? I can tell you F ALL! He is not young anymore and cannot see him improving due to lacking many brain cells, 5m or more and we should sell...Weimann will be a good squad player to have, we need 1 more striker in but not sure who.

How about Carrol from Liverpool Newcastle are reportedly getting readt to table a bid for 10 mill ? I know we may not have the money but a front line of Carrol & Benty ? yum ! Thinking how Lambert used Holt at Norwich I am surre he would get the best out of Carrol

P.Avfc, apart from speed? well he's good in the air and after his incredible buking up act in recent years he's also pretty good at holding the ball up. mickatkins - not sure abou the running their hearts out piece but mmm Walcott, Pavelychenko (or however you spell it). Other clubs aren't that different. At the end of the day footie is about opinions, we all clearly see different things in different players. I personally see enough in Gabby and Weiman to keep both but Lambert will no doubt also have a view, so we'll see

I agree having Gabby is something different in terms of his speed but he doesn't add nothing else. Bent all day for me, get another top striker in with him and Gabby can be used now and again either on the right wing or upfront.

The last few seasons Gabby has only really shown his pace. He did have the potential but I would give him 1 more season under an attacking manager rather than being asked to sit back all the time. On Weimann, I wouldn't say he's amazing, but he is better than Delboy and we won't see what he can really do until he has a decent run of games. Let's give him a chance. I would also take Carroll on loan 100%.

Gabby has more than 1 attribute unlike the false prophet amongst us that some falsely acclaim. Lambert is known for having a plan B and C etc. Gabby will find a place in one of these formations. It keeps the opposition guessing anyway. We don't want 4 strikers that are identical.

I'd be playing Bent up front on his own with Gabby and Holman behind and midfield of Nzog, Karim, Ireland and Herd. Christmas tree formation do they call it. But I do worry with Fonz and Weimann as back up. Have to agree Bent and Carroll upfront would be interesting. If not Carroll, is it to late to bring Crouch back ?
