Dunne And Given To Be Kept For Experience?

Dunne And Given To Be Kept For Experience?

Good heavens, didn`t expect these quotes!

Paul Lambert is looking forward to the experience of Shay Given (no quibbles) and Richard Dunne.

Really?

Gulp and blimey O`Reilly.

given

He explains that they are both experienced, been around the block and that is needed.

He says they`ve been great for Villa and that the Euro campaign was tough for them.

Has Dunne been great? First season with Collins, yes. Since?

For me, a big no. In fact, unless he has his head back in the game, he`s at times been a liability, not just on the pitch at times by the sounds of it.

'But they've done great for Villa in the past and had fantastic football careers let alone anything else. But they've been over the course before and once I see them I'll have another chat with them.'

Hey ho, clean slate for any player he decides he wants to keep and he is right, we do need experience with the youth.

Think Collins will go and Dunne will stay.

has anyone considered that, given Dunne's performances last season especially (and in Euros) and also some "bad decisions" the season before - IT MAY NOT BE EASY TO SELL THE GUY ! I dont know off hand how much time he has left on his contract but I imagine if you just bin him off you have to keep paying the wages until termination day. Alternatively if you bring someone else in and/or promote Clark/Baker permanently, after half a season on the bench his agent will maybe kick in for the Jan 2013 window. I F-ing hope so

actually it seems he is on contract until July/Aug next year (cant see that he ever signed an extension and it would have happened last season and was not reported!). He will want to play in 2014 WC so he needs first team football. and he is in last season of a 4 year contract therefore could be tricky. At 50K a week maybe better to let him walk !! You save 25-30K a week for a year on wages its about the same as you'd get for a fee anyway. Dont let the door hit your big a*** on the way out, Mr O.G. Penalty.

Yes, agree malacaxeta, difficult to sell on. Also, who knows, he might decide he likes this manager and then he might be half interested! Don't think Lambert will have favourites, if they aren't playing well, they'll be benched.

I'd keep both, had a feeling Lambert wouldn't be quick to do away with Dunne, he's still a very experienced international centre back, and personally I think he's been great over his career. We need at least some experience in the defense, and out of all the clowns back there Id keep Dunne. I'm not going to ignore the mistakes he makes or some of the off-field antics, but we can't ignore either some of the top class defending and goal saving blocks and tackles he's made.

I really have gotten sick of the attacks on Dunne. YES he has had a bad couple of seasons but who at VP has been playing well over the last couple of seasons? He when handled correctly is a quality defender, he has never been the most intelligent defender but he can still do a good job. Collins has made far more mistakes off the pitch than Dunne, I see Collins as a much bigger problem in our team than Dunne. Actually look at our back for last season Warnock, Dunne, Collins and Hutton. I think we all would agree at least three of those players are not up to the standard required for a Villa defence. Of them the only one I would give another chance to is Dunne. Lets see what he does with a real manager and the real defenders he is planning to use and sign. UTV!

If it last ditch backs to the wall defending then Dunne's your man. If its cultured intelligent play from the back then sadly no. A lot depends on which Richard Dunne appears this season, and how he takes to the new set up.... and if his "influence" has been diminished... time will tell

This has got me in two minds (as i always am), Dunne looked like he has had it for the past year or two and at the Euro's but Lambert has worked miricle by getting lower leaue playes playing a a higher level in the prem at Norwich so h will be able to get some of th players here like reland Dunne Warnock playing better than they have done for us im sure of it, so whoever Lambet keeps sells or buys is fine by me and trust him to get whoeer i in the mghty claet and blue Villa shirt come kick off time to be 110% up for it and play with pride and passion! UTV!
