Villa Transfer Talk, Striker & Midfielder Linked

Setanta are linking Villa to Rennes midfielder Tongo Doumbia.

His agent has confirmed that he is talks to move to the Premier League and Villa are thought to be interested. Either that or the agent is trying to talk up a move for his player?

Tongo told Le 10 Sport: 'My agent is taking care of that - it is nice but a transfer requires all parties agreeing to it and now we are talking with Rennes. And this is not that I don't want to play with Rennes but this is the Premier League, it is a league that really attracts me. I think I have a playing style suited to the Premier League."

Do we need another midfielder?

Meanwhile, on twitter, Mat Kendrick @MatKendrick has dismissed a rumour:

"For all those asking, I'm told there's no truth in rumours that Rennes attacking midfielder Yacine Brahimi is joining Villa."

A few whispers online that we are still after Leeds skipper Robert Snodgrass. Ken Bates liked doing business with us over Fabian Delph if that helps!!!

Snodgrass wasn`t impressed at the end of last season with the promises of promotion etc, so might be looking to move: www.dailymail.co.uk

Young, hungry, can play as a winger or striker, has 35 goals in 168

We need greater experience and quality across the middle. Doumbia would add a real dimension to the squad. With Makoun and El Ahmadi we would then have great options for both CM and CDM. Putting some experienced steel and fight into the middle would allow us to get those second balls and impose ourselves, taking pressure of the back and the front. We we're so flimsy and non-committal last year. Far too much standing off and hesitancy.

It sounds like Doumbia may be the exact type of player I was hoping we would sign. A powerful athlete and a bit of a giant should be able to thrive in the EPL. Yaya & Vieira were not that highly rated at Barca & AC Milan before moving to the Prem!

Disappointed about Brahimi..Liked the look of him..I do agree we need another midfield player though..Centre Back, left back and I also liked the rumours about a possibilty of Kenwynne Jones..Very useful altrnative if we switch to 4-4-2 and a history with DB9 as well

I'm with you Grizzly, 100%. And yes, you're right Chelt. Think he'd be a real scoop. Different type of player to Brahimi.

This fella is incredibly highly rated in France, and I would be pretty excited if we got him. Also surprised, as I would expect he would be aiming higher to be honest.
