Chelsea Link Left Back At Stamford Bridge?

The Mirror say that Villa could miss out on a bid for Chelsea`s left-back Ryan Bertrand.

Apparently the 22-year-old, who has made the Team GB squad, is rated by Roberto Di Matteo who has asked for him to get an improved contract.

Does he hang around for years on the bench behind massive money signings or join a team where he`ll be able to play though? Is he really going to displace Ashley Cole? I guess having made the Champions League final he might well rate his chances at Stamford Bridge, although that was as a winger and due to a litany of injuries.

One bit of the report I do not like. It says we would be willing to take him on a season long loan. I`m sorry, that is small time, we should NOT be a feeder club helping give other PL teams players experience (as we did with Spurs and Kyle Walker). Then again, I`m totally against the rule change allowing PL teams to loan players from each other.

Di Matteo said: "Ryan is a very talented player, who will get his opportunities to play and develop and will become a very good player."

PLEASE Villa, don`t train him up next season for Chelsea.

He must be on pretty good money at Chelski too. But as you say, does he want to play first team footy each week or sit on the bench, play the odd game and see his bank balance go up and up? Talking of loans though, if we can't sell 'em perhaps we could loan last seasons' back four to Newco/Rangers?......

I wonder why Villa fans think Bertrand is a surplus at Chelsea. He'll get his chances at the Bridge even more than he can get at Villa Park, moreover he'll become a European Champion for the second time i can bet you.

lol you deluded villa fan. Bertrand is one of the best young leftbacks on this planet. He will get his chance at chelsea this season and he WILL replace ashley cole once he quits chelsea in a season or 2. No way that he would join villa on loan as well , why would he want to fight relegation? If he's loaned out , I'm sure it will be to a bigger club like everton or fulham.

Let's not have sour grapes. Credit where it's due. Good team some great players and they won the CL, putting the Premier League back on top and wiping the smile of Platini's face in the process. Besides we did them away last season so we've already had our say.

The Walker loan worked out well for all parties, Villa,Spurs, England and the player, he scored a couple of belters too. I do not see the problem at all if the player is better than what we have.

Typical arrogant Chelski fan, probably only been watching them for last 10 years...Di Matteo only won the champions league because the old time/big name players came good having been frozen out by AVB. Wait a year or two until they've left/retired and see how well you do when he has to build his own team. Atleast Man City fans are enjoying thier success due to money and not just gloating about it.

Apart from the silly sarcasm the cheslki glory hunter is saying he has a point, why would Bertrand want to join Villa after appearing in the chumps league final triumph for them? We have to be relistic and a loan move is the only way we could we could get him which may be good for both clubs and player, just a tip don'tget wound up by petty omments on us being relegation contender again etcwe will have the last laugh in a few years my fellow Villans i pomise once Mr Abramovich flogs them off down the line and the new uefa rules kick in properly, at least we did not have to buy our history like they have had to, we won our leaguesand european cup final the right way not buying it ;)
